i agree, i find the fewer words the better, they always seem to stick eg: hotmail, microsoft, apple, google, starbucks, basicaly, they make their company name, another term for what they are selling... starbucks = coffee

Not keen on any of those at first glance. I'll have to ponder them for awhile.

Just popped into my head, sync art doesn't sound too bad. Not sure if any of these are taken, don't know how to check.

Those could be worth considering.

Things to consider when naming:

No more than 3 or 4 syllables
Easy to spell
Easy to remember
Describes what people will find on the site in some manner
....hmmm...psychoartistsfromthevoid...nope, that won't work....

Another idea I had - subscribers, if they want, could receive a special deal on hosting if they want to build a professional site for themselves - such as a more personalized portfolio, etc.

Ok, here's the orby I've been working on.

Orby #1: Orby with a little hair on top, I think it looks better with it, but that's not up to me.
Orby #2: Same as first without the hair.
Orby #3: Orby with a possible way of showing an error, such as a broken link, that is if the whole body is used. To add to that, I could make some angry eye brows, maybe red eyes etc. for the Forbidden error(403?) and have a speech bubble saying stuff <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />.

I know its a bit late probably but looking back on the thread ive some concerns about this new business idea...

* If all our combined efforts are going into producing this new service isnt there a risk the new or existing KN will become stale due to lack of time to produce input or is the new service taking a back seat to it.
* I know voiced concerns to josh about the idea of reproducing deviantart and i thought i gave a pretty good arguement against it before my pc blew up but it seems it wasnt quite enough so im curious to what got this idea forward.
* Reinventing a service isnt a new thing to the IT industry and waynes initial voices of concerns are valid, why remake something that even exists, the thing is people like deviantart as it is and im unsure if you will be able to sway users to this "next big thing"... the problem with social networking sites which have lots of user interaction is that the general rule is they appear and disappear quickly when something new and shiney takes center stage with more stuff then your own... the problem is this kind of thing never has a high return on users because users do not hold loyalty to something which brings together people, essentially i call it the sheep effect, they follow the flock. The proposal of making a new service which will be better then deviantArt may have some good ideas but the success rates of spin offs or reinventions are extremly low and unless the staff are less stretched then they were before i fell offline, i cant work out how its going to be done and maintained easily.
* I dont wanna be a killjoy here or anything, im just going with my instincts and they are flaring red flags at me right about now over this idea, i could understand it if we were making something new but making a better looking, more functional deviantart... even if we do succeed, its going to be mega hard trying to crowbar the existing deviantart users away from that service, i mean before deviantart was big everyone used 3dshop.com and now that place is a ghost town pretty much.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! No... deviantART users HATE it there. The servers are CONSTANTLY going offline, their support SUCKS, people pay and they're not getting what they pay for, and the people are sick of how stupid the staff are.


I don't see this as a "success plan." I see this as a way to bring a better service to people. If they sign up, great. If they don't, great. We know that we aren't going to steal deviantART 's users. We know that deviantART is the largest art community in the world. We also know that deviantART sucks. We also know that deviantART can improve in so many ways. The only reason why people stay around deviantART is because of the large userbase. All of their friends are there.
