Unfortunately, as you can see, there is no real pattern to it to allow for blocking through mod_security or Snort. And banning the IP of the sender will do nothing to prevent the spam from being sent, as they are 99% of the time 1-hits.
I'm thinking image verification might be the way to go. You have to be logged in to post on your blog, maybe replies and feedback forms should be equiped with the same sort of image verification system that is used on most BB's now at registration time.

As stupid as i think image verifications are, i think they are needed in this situation. Besides, look at LiveJournal, one of the most successful online journal sites, and they use image verification for people to just post a reply, it never seemed to make them any less popular.

Is anyone else still having problems with spambots, over the past few months i've been getting spam posts every now and then, but nothing that was too hard to just click delete, but after visiting my blog after a 2 day spell, i found around 47 spam posts. in the same thread!

errrr...You're serious? Ummm... Scott/Vulture is away for vacation or something. I'd go in and add some image verification before posting, but I'm afraid of his code as it breaks easily. <img src=\'
http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> I haven't had spam bot problems, but then again my blog isn't on top sites and stuff.... Only places the link is posted is from google's index.

Likewise about the whole topsites etc. Im unsure, as NS isnt around (or is he, you never really know) but maybe c+p the ip's of the spam for NS to blacklist...it might help in general
*Edit: Wow, just looked at your blog mobes; It really is getting pounded with spam. :S
*Edit: Yeah, so they dont have ip's. Thats annoying

I think they're just random IP's. Probably would be wasting your time blacklisting all those IP's (all 43 of them).

all 75 of them now, and the only topsite mine was listed on was the KN topsites, which i believe is non-operational anymore (one of these days i'll remove the link to it from my blog <img src=\'
http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />).
But yeah, thats a post i don't particularly want to delete as it's a memory of when i first got my new car lol. But if its getting an average of 30 spam posts a day, then i don't think i have a choice.

Disable comments for it by editing the post.

Are they worthwhile spam messages, at least? You know... marry the hot Russian girls looking for citizenship and such?
Vulture is the one who handles the Blog stuff, and he's away for another week or two yet... but once he's back, I'll remind him about Image Verification for blog comments.

Still won't be back home for a few more days, but I'll add this in when I get back (or try to, the code does break easily <img src=\'

Alright, try that on for size. It's nothing that someone can't work their way around, but I don't expect any bots to be custom built for KB.
I've switched it on for all blogs, but you can turn it off from the My Settings page. I think the font is readable enough, and as for the background - you can change that by uploading a png image called "code.png" (111x41px is the current size). The font colour will be changed by popular demand, I realise red isn't very neutral.
Think that's all, let me know if it works or not <img src=\'
