I really need to get a good read through on this and see what I can help with / commit to. However, my current living situation (which some of you know about, most don't) sucks. I will be getting out of it within a week or two and my free time will go up a lot until I get a job. Really need a road map of what needs done so we know who can do what. Will add to this post when I can, or add another reply. Okay, my brain stopped working, end of post.
Edit: I really like the more profile-centric instead of forum-centric idea.
Take your time, We have to make the story board, roadmap... whatever first...
We are getting ideas so we know what our final release is like, but we need to do this in bits. once we have something functional we release as beta, fix bugs holes, and move froward making the other parts. which means that the gaming section will probably be after the gallery section, which will be after the profile section..... get me?
Would you rather people be able to download your opensource, or your exe if you make it availible for download. Or both.
Would you rather people be able to play the game on the web with maybe some activex control of some sort (that's over my head), or would you rather be able to upload a video mockup of some sort of it.
I'm just trying to get the feel for what the gamer creators would like in this instance.
well id say no to open source, unless they PM the creator and ask for it? because there really isnt a need for many people to have access to the source.
as to whether it should be played on server, or downloaded... im not sure. anyone know how hard it would be to integrate a VB exe into a page, with activeX controls or some other way?

we could just place these options in there.... and make some of them optional.... check against all fields to make sure one or two of them are filled.

I like the ideas that are being thrown around here, and the art showcase+community site has been on my back burner personally for a while, and I can confirm first-hand that coding such a behemoth needs a SET plan, otherwise throughout the development the volume of ideas will overwhelm & distort.. not to mention take up one hell of a lot of time.
I think the idea of becoming more profile-centric is sound, though we still need to concentrate primarily on content around here to grab people, ideally IMO a balance between the two would be best.
Right now the forum is mainly about posts, if there's any way it could be made to involve users more (off the top of my head I'm thinking.. rather than avatars and the member no/joined/group stuff, have pictures of ourselves, and vital stats like ASL) as the way I see it, the profiles are a cool new feature, we just need to make it a bit more obvious that they're here, just coming to the forum as a newbie I probably wouldn't notice them, but if I saw a thumbnail pic of someone it generally invites me to click for a bigger version (hence profile).
This is my input so far anyway, I'm at work so can't really think at my best..
as far as my input in terms of development, my time's still really saturated and I'm behind on my own things, but will keep you guys updated.
Will be back on tuesday, when I'll probably contribute a little more to this thread.

yes, we need a storyboard.... We will probably start setting this up soon... I'd imagine.... all at Tami's digression. Need to get things organized .
I feel like we are starting to pull back together, and to that I say....

I'll make a new post rather than editing my old one (so people don't skim past)..
The idea mentioned of a kudos or points type system sounds good to me, especially for people who post artwork/tutorials etc, and it could be a good confidence booster thus tempting people to post more.

Wow, we got a bit active today, didn't we?

/bigwink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' /> I like that.
Josh, we used CVS before and it kinda worked so perhaps if we done something like that again the code would be spread at least between 2 of us - I don't know if anyone else is able/willing to get involved with something like this (Paul?).
Yes, it worked very well. You'll have to tell me how to set it up again though. I would be willing to work on that with you. Keep in mind my PHP knowledge is not up to snuff with yours or Paul's. I can't do real complicated things, but I can do more than what an average person could do.
As for a storyboard/roadmap of what we need to do. How are we going to lay that out? I can make it, but do we want to make it a visual or just a list of what needs done?

Good discussion happening so far.

/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
okay - I've been trying to work on a roadmap, I think I need a big wall chart - too many little pieces of paper all over the place.
I think I read somewhere up ^^ there about account owner approving comments. No. Some of the photographers who are set to move over to our site get hundreds of comments per day (yes I know dA is way bigger than us right now) and having to approve all of those comments will turn them right off. Keep it simple. Guests can't post comments. However, account owners need to be able to hide comments/replies should they so desire.
The fav system on dA is a must, it's very important to the artists.
I am not a member on FaceBook and have no intention of joining it, but I'll get Collene to give me a tour, she's a member.
The profile-centric thing to me is an excellent idea. The forum can serve as a central way for members to inter-act just like on any other community - can we have a thumbs section please?

/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
We need to have some type of store functionality - a main KN store plus the ability for account holders to sell their work. I don't care if something the artist wants to sell is put in the main store with an accounting system in place to make sure the right artists get paid for their sales or what - just whatever system is best. Of course this also means that we are going to have to have a proper payment gateway, so I guess that means digging out all of the previous research I did before.
The other important feature is that within their galleries, the artists want to be able to put their photos in different order if they want to rearrange them.
Oh yes, and in the profile system, we need to have mandatory fields that have to be filled in so that they can be used if a person wants to search a particular field, like "artists from Canada" ... you cannot currently search on dA to find all artists from a specific country.
So I guess the main thing will be to continue building kn v2 so that we get the professional looking bits up, I'm sure it will all be tied together, but I think that this new site needs to be a "division of KillaNet" which means we need a name for the new site, maybe, I don't know rofl. That part's not of paramount importance right now.
There's loads more that needs to go into this reply but I can't concentrate right now, too many things going on around me. I'll write something up later and we can get a proper development thread started, but please keep discussing ideas here, this is good.

Nice Wayne.
I don't think anything 'killa' is really going to work. I'm also keen to move into other colour schemes....

I'm in somewhat of an agreement with Scott about the colors. Not sure I can make a suggestion as to different ones than what we're using, but in my opinion I think a change might be in order...

keeping up with this thread is like keeping up with a two year old while blind folded.
All I'll say about colo(u)rs is that we need some colo(u)r. ... more than 2...
I'm sure admins will battle that out - I'm taking the safe road on that one and keeping my nose out of it
