Ok, so, we explored the infamous Facebook....What parts of facebook are we looking at for the dA meets facebook idea?


Colo(u)rs...purple and teal of course!

profiles / comments / groups / events / pictures
Other major parts to note about are the networks - how it's organized and who the security is set up.
The works. Pay no attention to applications, or any of the new crazy stuff it has

she needs to look at all of that, but what we are concerned with is more of the networking part of it.

I'm wondering how hard it would be to "rewrite" that part of facebook, if it's what we're really looking for. Sounds kinda complicated but still a nice idea

Uploader, see what she thinks about that. Ease of use and the multitude of AJAX features on top of what Wayne said. Networks will be tricky, and very similar. Still pondering that one. How about if people could tag other users? Flickr has it where you tag pictures (which we can think about vs. dA style categories) but what about if you could also put tags on the actual artist and search that way? Discuss!

Yes, colours shall be fun. Don't think any of those names have the right ring to it. Public profiles, none of this private nonsense.

I think it'd be easier (although longer) to write from scratch going for exactly what we want.

A few drawings of what my head is thinking of right now. Didn't scan very well and my writing is appalling, but for those who're able to read it it shows where I'm trying to get to. Comments very welcome. If I've gone the completely different way from what you're thinking then say so.

When you submit a deviation on dA, you can put keywords in which come up in searches. Oh, that's another thing - on dA, I think the search function is only available to subscribers. I want the search function available to all users. With the tagging, we can add people to our WatchList, which gives a few options - you can choose from any or all of Friends, Watch Devs (get notifications of new artwork), Journal (get notifications of new journal entries) and Scraps (get notifications if they put something in their Scrap Album) I think something else was added in regards to if they submitted a News Story as well, but I do believe that is part of the Journal notification.

I thought of a name but it's already taken. Perhaps we can work up a play on the word: artography

The mockups look interesting; I will take another closer look at them. One thing I want to avoid is clutter and confusion. Every page needs to be clean and easy to figure out. All options need to be easy to enable/disable, etc. etc.

I need a nap.

I see some good ideas in that drawing Scott, and I'm running with it. I'll submit my own which is just edits of yours.... maybe we can get some collaboration on this across the designers and the coders and the people that just sit here and look pretty.

Few edits I'm thinking of atm:

Member info on the left column isn't member info but more of a dashboard. displays up to 5 or 6 messages (only unread) at a time, displays all art work you have not viewed ( which means once it's viewed it needs to be marked as read like "view new posts" lists do). If you have no art work that's not viewed, then it displays the 6 newest that you've left on your list of art work ( things that you might want to go back to), or maybe it lists your recent favorite adds (BTW we need a new name for favorites). Also thinking of putting a list of things that have last received comments.... more to run with on that.....


damn there was more but I've lost my thoughts thinking into the dashboard stuff so much.


Note: I don't think we want a separate page for ALL of our dashboard information. the things on the left would be links to those items ... quick links kinda, will cut down on page loads. Plus if you are viewing something, and a new peice of art work comes on when you view the next piece, it shows what it is, and gives a direct link. Won't have to click the message then click the link to get to the image... take out a page load means less bandwidth....also means faster server speed cause there's less clicking going on.

False. Everyone can search dA. Subscribers can choose between 120 browsing though. Members only get 20 to browse through (I think...Wayne?)

dA *just* added notifications of news submitted by people on your watch list. As in, they added it this week lol

I like it, but is 'ography' a suffix? Just not a suffix in 'Photography?' I don't want to give the impression we're just an photography community...even though we'll have a bunch of photographers joining when we release lol

I say we get rid of the 'dashboard' completely on the side of the page. It seems to 'bloggish' to me. I would prefer having it at the top of the page on a horizontal menu.

Is that the layout ^ you're thinking off in terms od design and placement?

your header << for unpaid, we gotta fit a banner in there.
your index page << might need some text or a small somethin before the thumbnails thingy.

I pretty much like yours, clean and simple. I think though, we need to work in some things from waynes mock up, like the extra info without making it too cluttered.
