Fact is, we can fit all that info in the blocks that I provided in mine. lol

spaced some things out ... and got rid of the right column. Hated it.

Josh, basically we have the same layout of things.... I just put more detail into it.... plus the handy quick links dashboard.

Some things aren't spaced the same... whatever. I gave my design go - I'm not a designer.

That looks better. I don't think we need Favourite Artists. It's taking too much space and not needed. Favourite works is adequate enough because it takes you to the artist. That way more space is free. Well that my opinion anyway.

So if we're using my header in your design, why have that left column when I have all of that info in the drop down menu under the search? lol <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
Josh, I told you what I liked of yours.....your header << for unpaid, we gotta fit a banner in there.your index page << might need some text or a small somethin before the thumbnails thingy.
A banner will fit in there... Keep in mind I used HUGE fonts and HUGE everything just as a rough idea of layout. Having a 'small somethin' before the thumbnails thingy would annoy the hell out of me. When I go to dA, I want to SEE the art. I don't want to see the text every single time I go there. I want directly to the art, look at the latest submissions, see the popular things, etc...

1 question before going too much further. Those boxes are scalable, right? I don't want a "more" link on the bottom of my journal. I want my journal right there, read in one go, not another click to read the rest - alot of artists feature other artists in their journals, and those "below the fold" won't get the same exposure as those on the initial view.

I want an "about me" section without all of those stupid fields that they have as "deviant info" however some fields in member info will have to be required fields so that certain search functions work - like - regional/national, etc.

Excellent discussion & brainstorming happening. Expect explosions from the Admin area soon, the colour discussion has begun <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /lmfao.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':lmfao:\' /> <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /knife.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(knife)\' />

Oh yeah...remember that while we're building a community, the site will primarily be an artist promotion site, where they can get their names and their work "out there" as well as participate in community publications such as annual books, calendars, etc. as well as sell a selection of their own products.

Everything in mine I planned on being fluid in height. (Width too if you want to get technical). I'm making a mockup right now of just a header.... *shrugs* lol

edit;

This is what I saw when I was designing the sketch earlier for the header:
knv2_moc...der_dren.jpg
those will NOT be icons we would use.. Those are icky Vista icons, but they're the only icon set I have on my pc right now. We would have to design our own.

With that, if we're going to not want clutter, then we won't want things like we have on the forum that is displayed to the left of every post, right? So we probably need to formulate a plan to designate a member from an admin to a banned user. dA does this, also.

i love the mockup header <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' /> also like the idea about a simple little "one character recognition" well done

Header looks good, even the colours! I do think you'll need a sidebar somewhere to fit in more links/info. Wayne I think yours is a bit too close to dA at the moment, but it's just a mock up.

Josh how about colours/bold for differentiating between staff and members?

Remember all of these profile pages will be vertically scrollable, so it probably looks more cluttered on the work ups because we're trying to fit it all in.

I'm not in the design business.... I only wanted to get things going...

with that said... We need to make sure we CUT DOWN on page loads. Anything and everything that can be run with ajax, javascript, and all those other lanauges that will cut down on the page loads will be amazing. less page loads = faster servers = more happy people = success.

One note about colors ... I don't want in on that discussion mostly cause I want my head where it is, but I will say that the more colorful, and artsy it looks the better. DA is dull - facebook is ... well it's white. We need good skins, and possibly changeable skins? more skins comes with subscription?

Someone mentioned viewing full size image, I was thinking about this idea - go here and click on one of the project images. Comments?

DB queries and all types of caching are going to be needed to try and keep loads down, but it won't be a major factor at first. As the site develops then it'll become more important.

that site full view image is pretty sweet.... yeah it's awesome I love it. - possible to maybe include a comment box on the bottom of that so you can comment when you are looking at it in full view? just an idea.

You know what it takes for keeping load times down ... it will just be a big thing when the site launches that's what most people complain about.

IMO we need at least 3 ads on the page for people that are free. These ads need to be a combination of pay per click and flat rates. .05 per page load? .10 per click? so if they want 10,000 page loads and get 100 clicks... $510 or 1000 page loads for $50. Seems overly reasonable to me.... - maybe I'm wrong lol

I refuse to have nothing but AJAX powered everything on the site. AJAX is nice, but once you start using it to power everything, I can't stand it. One note about colors, dA is dull colored because the focus is the art, not their layout <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... igwink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

The only problem I see with that is the fact that people can't se ea full view when they first go to the page (Subscribers on dA see fullviews of images by default when they look at an image. Non-subscribers see the thumbnail and then they have to click it to see the full view.)

Ok just to let everyone know I'm still alive and reading this post. I like everything that's going on but can't really help with coding or language stuff.

I might be able to come up with a design of my own if I get some time to brainstorm about colours and stuff.
