BlowUp, new from Alien Skin
Price: $199.00 USD (upgrade pricing is available to owners of other Alien Skin Software)

Blow Up offers the highest quality image resizing available, better than bicubic interpolation and any other third party solution. Blow Up makes advanced image scaling easy, preserves smooth, crisp edges and lines, and creates four times (1600% area) enlargements from any image without jagged artifacts or halos. In some cases, Blow Up can enlarge up to six times (3600% area) without obvious artifacts.

Blow Up includes advanced features such as photo grain controls, enlargement-specific sharpening, and support for most image modes, including CMYK. Blow Up also supports 16- and 32-bit images and is optimized for multi-core and multi-processor systems. These features make Blow Up perfect for a professional photographer creating gallery prints from digital photos, as well as an amateur photographer creating a poster from a favorite snapshot. Graphic designers can now easily scale Web graphics up to print resolution or rescale everyday images for large format printing and outdoor advertising.

PhotoLift $48.85 Canadian Funds

PhotoLift is a Photoshop filter plug-in for enhancing detail and local contrast in digital photographs.
How it Works

PhotoLift takes advantage of recent advances in non-linear image filtering, enabling the aggressive amplification of local contrast in an image without modification of overall tonality or the creation of artifacts. The filter operates by separating the image into small-scale (detail) and large-scale (base) components.

Unlike traditional methods of local contrast enhancement, strong edges in the original image are not represented in the detail component. This allows detail to be manipulated without producing unnatural halos or other artifacts in the vicinity of prominent edges. Furthermore, since the overall tonality of the image is largely contained in the base component, such detail manipulation does not significantly affect the large-scale tonal distribution of the image.
Application

In practice, PhotoLift finds wide application, and is particularly well-suited to fine-art and landscape photography. PhotoLift can bring out detail and texture, bringing an apparently dull and lifeless image to life. It can also help to mitigate the effects of atmospheric haze in a photograph; similarly, in scenes which include water, it can reduce the effect of reflections and bring out obscured detail beneath the water's surface. PhotoLift can be used as subtly or aggressively as desired.

System Requirements

PhotoLift works with Microsoft Windows and Adobe Photoshop only. It is compatible with Photoshop CS and CS2, the new Photoshop CS3 as well as recent versions of Photoshop Elements. (It may also work with Photoshop version 6.) Some of the algorithms used by PhotoLift are quite processor-intensive, so a fast CPU and large amount of memory will be beneficial. (We recommend a minimum of 1Mb of RAM.) A screen resolution of at least 1024x768 is required.

Try PhotoLift Yourself!

A thirty-day evaluation version is available for download. If you like the filter and would like to use it on a permanent basis, a registration key can be purchased.

Photoshop Plug-ins [Commercial]

Commercial Filters from The Ditigal Artshop:

Very reasonably priced filters. They also offer a few free filters.

SKETCHER
A three-in-one filter that can be used to create convincing hand sketched effects with either colour pencil, graphite pencil, or black and white pastels on a coloured paper. Our new version 1.2 features improved texture and added pencil strokes. Plus the pastel filter also now contains a fine detail control.

PHOTO FILM
Four different types of photographic film and print effects including;
Infrared Colour A 'False Colour' infrared film uses one of the three colour separations on a film carrier (usually the red one) to render the infrared information, using the two remaining ones for the normal colour information. This leads to some unusual effects with objects that give off a lot of infrared light (especially foliage) being depicted in red and skys becoming a deep blue. For our simulator we used Kodak Ektachrome Infrared Film as our example.
Infrared Black & White The Black and White infrared film depicts an accurate, greyscale image of the amount of infrared light given off various objects. This can lead to errie white foliage on trees and plants with almost black skies.
Colour Print Negative This little filter turns the image into a colour print negative. To reproduce your image with a carrier film border a large JPeg image is included with the filter set. Simply position your picture within the frame then apply the filter.
Sepia Print Turn your pictures into the classic 'old' photo. Together with the usual controls we've included one to fade the edges and an ageing one to yellow and fade the whole image.

PEN & INK ARTIST
This 3-in-1 plug-in filter simulates a pen and ink style of illustration. Probably one of the most common uses for this style of illustration is comic books (or graphic novels). The three versions include; Plain black on white, with cross hatch shading. Black, coloured with inks or water colour paint. The colour version with a halftone screen applied for that classic comic book feel.

ANTI-CONTRAST
Who hasn't come across pictures which suffer from a too high a contrast. Our AntiContrast filter was created by the author because of his own need to correct these images, both personal and for his work.
Normal contrast filters work by flattening out the tonal values overall. The AntiContrast filter works by progressively multiplying or dividing each individual pixel. It does not just lighen or darken the image. With the filter controls you can individually adjust the filter's effect on both the light and dark areas of an image.
Used sparingly it can be used to reduce the contrast in images taken in bright sunlight for example. Used at the more extreme settings the filter can pick out detail in dark or bleached out areas of an image.

ENHANCER
Our Enhancer plug-in has two separate filters. Sharp/Smooth will smooth parts of your image and at the same time, hold or sharpen the detail areas. The controls allow you to either sharpen just the detail areas, smooth just the non-detail, or both. The 'Sharp Edge Width' control adjusts the amount of detail to be retained. Highlighter uses a combination of subtle light and/or dark edge highlights to bring out and enhance the image detail.

ISOLATED COLOURS
All three filters in this package allow you to manipulate individual colours within the image.
Add Colour With this filter you can add up to six separate colours to a greyscaled image, red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow. Threshold sliders allow you to control the amount of each colour. A depth control is also included to enhance the effect.
Colour Boost This filter allows you boost individual colours within the picture, so you can brighten that dull looking sky, bring out that models red lips, or make a certain object more prominent. The twelve individual colour controls are for red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow. The depth control will hide any 'false, stuck-on look' to the result.
RGB Remover Does what it says! Working on the alpha channel you can remove any one or all red, green and blue colours from the image, leaving the area transparent. The filter also includes controls for removing highlights and/or shadows as well.

COLOUR TONER
These four individual filters were compiled as a quick, no frills, way of applying some basic single-colour effects to an image. The monotone filter renders the greyscale image in a single colour. The duotone combines the colour with the greyscale. The two tinted glass filters apply the single colour over either a greyscale or full colour image.
The colour can be obtained by either adjusting the individual RGB sliders or typing in the values directly - the resulting colour is shown in the small preview. Also shown for reference is the hexadecimal value for that colour.

TRI-TONER
A versatile little filter to easily add rich colours and brighten up the even the most boring colour or greyscale images. Easily apply complementary, wild, corporate company or even your favourite football team colour combinations. With the two sets of RGB sliders and colour previews you can accurately control the colour of both the middle and light tones. The Tri-troner comes with 15 preset examples.

MULTI-TONER
A filter to liven up black & white or dull colour pictures. The Multitoner consists of three separate filters. The Pastel Tone filter applies a multi-coloured tone to the greyscale version of the image. The Glass Tint and Glass Tint [mono] filters apply a multi-coloured tint over either a colour or greyscale version of the image. Both the pattern and colours of the multi-coloured tone overlay can be altered to obtain the best result. The contrast control when used will force the overlay to interact with the image creating some strong colourful results.

VIGNETTE PLUS
Ten different elliptical vignette styles in one handy filter. These include the standard fade to solid colour, a colour tinted edge, colour noise, a coloured glow effect, fade to greyscale, scattered image pixels, a frosty blur, spotlight with darkened edges and highlighted center, a hard rough edge and of course alpha channel fade to transparent. Vignette size and fade amount are fully adjustable.

From Meta/DMA:

Layer Splitter

Layer Splitter is a drag-and-drop application that takes a multi-layered Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator file and separates each layer to its own file. Each separated layer preserves the dimensions of the original document, making layer alignment a snap. Layer Splitter can output Photoshop files either straight (unmatted) with a mask channel, or premultiplied on either white or black. It can read and write Photoshop files in Grayscale, RGB, CMYK, and LAB color modes, and can output them in Photoshop, PICT, TIFF, or Targa formats. Layer Splitter can name output files either by document and layer name ("Untitled_Layer1"), layer name only ("Layer1"), or by sequential numbers ("Untitled_001") in either ascending or descending order.

Why do I need Layer Splitter?
If you've ever tried to import a Photoshop file into a program with limited Photoshop support, you know what a pain it can be to separate and align layers. Some programs import each layer at its own size, rather than the size of the original document. Some programs can't properly import layer transparency, while other programs can't import Photoshop layers at all. Layer Splitter takes the transparency information from each layer and moves it to an alpha channel, while maintaining the original size of the source document, creating files that almost any graphics program can read. Layer Splitter also makes it possible to work with Illustrator layers in programs which otherwise wouldn't recognize them.

What's new in Layer Splitter 3?
Layer Splitter 3, currently available for Macintosh, now supports 16-bit and 32-bit Photoshop files, Unicode file names, and full PDF support for Illustrator files up to version CS3.
When's the Windows version of Layer Splitter 3 coming out?
Soon! The Windows version is in final testing, and we hope to have it released in the next few months. Until then, Layer Splitter 2 for Windows is available at a reduced price.

What are Layer Splitter's system requirements?
Layer Splitter 3 for Macintosh requires OS 10.4 or higher. On Windows, you'll need Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.
For older operating systems, Layer Splitter 2 is still available. Layer Splitter 2 for Macintosh requires OS 8.1 or higher, while the Windows version will run on Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP, or Vista.

What does Layer Splitter cost, and how can I purchase it?
Layer Splitter 3 costs $75 for either the Macintosh or Windows version. Bundled discounts for multiple versions of the software are available, as are site licenses. Layer Splitter 2 is available for $50. For existing Layer Splitter 2 users, upgrades to version 3 are available for $35. Please visit our online store for complete ordering information.

Scopo Gigio

Scopo Gigio is a full-featured video waveform monitor and vectorscope plugin for Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. It emulates most of the features you'd find in a hardware-based waveform monitor / vectorscope combo, at a small fraction of the cost.

Why do I need Scopo Gigio?
Anyone who creates graphics for broadcast video ought to have a waveform monitor and vectorscope. The color spectrum of broadcast video is much smaller than that of a computer, and it's very easy to create graphics on a computer with colors far outside the legal broadcast range. Scopo Gigio lets you monitor your video levels quickly and easily.

What broadcast systems does Scopo Gigio support?
Scopo Gigio works with both NTSC and PAL video, in both standard definition (ITU-601) and high-definition (SMPTE-274M) color spaces.

How is Scopo Gigio implemented?
In Photoshop, you select Scopo Gigio from the Filter menu. In After Effects, Scopo Gigio is a floating palette you select from the Window menu.

What's new in Scopo Gigio 3?
Scopo Gigio 3, for Photoshop CS3 and After Effects CS3, adds a variety of new features, including YUV color space displays, single-channel displays, RGB level readouts, variable-sized screens (After Effects CS3 only), and more.

What are Scopo Gigio's system requirements?
Scopo Gigio 3 PS requires Adobe Photoshop CS3 or higher as its host program, and Scopo Gigio 3 AE requires Adobe After Effects CS3 or higher as its host. On the Macintosh, you'll need OS X v.10.4.8 or higher. On Windows, you'll need Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.
Scopo Gigio 2 AE is still available for users of After Effects 5.5.1 through 7.0, and Scopo Gigio 1.1 PS is still available for users of Adobe Photoshop 5.0 through CS2.

What does Scopo Gigio cost, and how can I purchase it?
Scopo Gigio 3 costs $95 for any one of its four versions (Photoshop for Mac, Photoshop for Windows, After Effects for Mac, or After Effects for Windows). Bundled discounts for multiple versions of the software are available, as are site licenses. Scopo Gigio 2 for After Effects and Scopo Gigio 1.1 for Photoshop are available for $75. For existing Scopo Gigio users, upgrades to version 3 are available for $45. Please visit our online store for complete ordering information.

How can I download a demo copy of Scopo Gigio?
You can find demo versions of Scopo Gigio on our support page. The demo version of Scopo Gigio is functionally identical to the release version, except for the large logo superimposed over the center of the scopes.

Is Scopo Gigio 3 for the Macintosh Intel-native?
Yes, Scopo Gigio 3 for the Macintosh is a Universal Binary, and works equally well on PowerPC and Intel processors.
