Victim Impact Statement

We have an opportunity to present an impact statement to the judge before he decides on Greg's final sentence. He can also add court-ordered financial restitution, meaning that Greg will be under a court order to pay us for damages. Of course, that doesn't mean he actually will ever pay, but the order will be there forever until he does or dies, whichever comes first.

I feel that it will have more of an impact on the judge if we have statements from each of you in regards to how you felt about what Greg did to our community. This statement does not have to be long, short and to the point is good. Please keep the language clean. <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... igwink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

Include your contact info for the judge - your real name, country of residence (state, province, whatever - don't need city) and your email address will suffice. You can either attach it here in the form of a word file or email it to me at tami@killanet.net

Thank you <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Don't hesitate to ask if you need any clarification about what to write. For those of you who are also hosting customers, you may write one under your site name as well, just keep it factual, especially in regards to any possible lost income.

Update:

Greg's sentencing has been postponed until September 30th. BTW, not one of you sent in an impact statement. I hope that the one I wrote was enough to get the judge to understand the ramifications of what Greg's attacks did to us.

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of this until after the date. I was in California when you posted this. <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... #>/cry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' /> I suppose there's no way I could submit one now, is there?

I'm very sorry... Usually I see these things but for some reason this one flew right past me -- not like me.

With Greg entering a guilty plea, the Impact Statements would have been very useful in showing the Judge just how extensive the damage he caused to us really was. With Rift disappearing again, we couldn't get one from him, so technically we can not include his site when calculating lost costs... other than downtime and rebated hosting fees... actual potential sale losses that he suffered could not be used.
Nor could any extra time spent fixing personal scripts or programs that were lost or damaged due to an attack taking place. Basically, only Killanet-specific losses could be counted.
This could potentially affect the sentancing considerably.

But I suppose we will find out on the 30th. With the impression that Greg made on all those involved with this case, and his various violations that took place either just before his arrest, or shortly after bail, he just might end up screwed either way.

The waiting game progresses.
