Gemini

You may or may not know, but I\'ve been working on a project for quite some time now. The project is called \"Gemini\" and it is an IRC chat client.
Here\'s some of the main features that I\'ve achieved:

* Individual fonts and colors
* emoticons (optional)
* skinnable interface
* multiple room joining
* multiple choice trivia (gonna need questions again)
* Plus almost all the features that NitroX had

Here\'s some of the features I HOPE to achieve:

* scripting functionality
* Interprocess communication (IPC) between add-on bots and client
* filesharing

Here\'s some of the problems I\'m facing:

Due to using VB6 I\'ve come across an annoying limitation. I\'m in desperate need to be able to utilize multithreading. You see upon receiving a large shwack of data from an IRC server (usually in the form of room lists or name lists of VERY large rooms - usually 400 ppl or more) Gemini will freeze until the data has finished arriving. On a server like EFNET or DalNet this can take up to 5 minutes - this is unacceptable.
Multithreading would allow for specified parts of the program to continue while the data finishes arriving - a reasonable solution. However, although there are some methods of multithreading in VB6, they aren\'t very good. So hopefully I can come up with some solution or this may become a major strike against Gemini.

oooo .... I just had a brain fart.... since I\'m gonna impliment IPC I may be able to use a seperate .exe to accept the \"shwack of data\" and then pass it over to the main .exe; Thus the data-acceptor.exe would do the temporary freeze (no biggy) while the main .exe would continue to run smoothly. Hmmm, I\'ll have to try it <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
Sorry, I\'ve begun to think outloud.

Projected release date:

Late July to Mid August

How many times have I told you...no thinking out loud?

Soooooooooooo when do I get to break.....ermmmm...test it, Jake?

You have been busy; I\'m sure it\'s going to be just as good as NitroX was, and we\'ll even be able to offer it on KillaGraphix Downloads <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Yes, my apologies Adaera.... you\'ve certainly been the biggest victum of my out loud thinking....seems I can\'t send you any message at all without making it at least 300 words!
Soooooooooooo when do I get to break.....ermmmm...test it, Jake?
Well I\'m holding on to some unrealistic fantasy that when you get your hands on a copy of Gemini that it will run completely smoothly. However, unlike many other psychoticly challenged people, I am aware that I am being dillusional. So to answer your question, you get to break it somewhere between the end of July and the middle of August (by my best estimates).... I look forward to it <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

hmmm... I don\'t know Ada, I\'ve had many, many beer since I made NitroX; I hear the braincells do eventually run out!
we\'ll even be able to offer it on KillaGraphix Downloads
Before you jump the gun on that offer, I must caution you... in my visions of grandure I think Gemini may be somewhere between 20 and 30 MB. So I won\'t blame you if you recant your offer.
Yay Finally he speaks of Gemeni lol.. I wanted to tell lots of people about the project but you told me to hush hush about it
I appreciate your discretion Josh. I get very little time to work on Gemini and in the early phases it would be easy for another programmer to simply steal my ideas (not that they\'re all that great, it\'s more that I\'m just paranoid) and release them before I get a chance to. So I tend to be quite about my programs in the beginning. But thanks for being quite.... you\'ve been there right from the birth of Gemini; the only person (aside from Ada of course) that would stop by in my testrooms <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
Hope you can get that problem fixed... I wouldn\'t be pleased if it took me 5 mins to continue on a program lol
I hope I can too, I can\'t stand waiting for programs to do anything.... for example I always leave the room while my computer boots and now with the current state of Gemini, I also leave the room while waiting for the lists to load on trial runs.

Anyway, I must go and sob a while over the devistating loss of the Calgary Flames (I am Canadian afterall)... but they\'ll win it in game 7!
Well bye for now <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Yes yes.. the test rooms lol.. Oh those were the days <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' /> I pop in, and there you are, going in and out of the room at least 10 times in a 5 min period testing Gemini <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

What was it again? #Testroom41? <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

hmmm, that was written in August...
well Gemini is still in the works...
Slow and steady wins the race (I have to work harder on the steady part of that)...
anyway, it is coming along, but I\'m no longer making predictions as to when it will be done. But I assure you Josh, you and Ada will be the first to know <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
