Gemini

You may or may not know, but I\'ve been working on a project for quite some time now. The project is called \"Gemini\" and it is an IRC chat client.
Here\'s some of the main features that I\'ve achieved:
* Individual fonts and colors
* emoticons (optional)
* skinnable interface
* multiple room joining
* multiple choice trivia (gonna need questions again)
* Plus almost all the features that NitroX had
Here\'s some of the features I HOPE to achieve:
* scripting functionality
* Interprocess communication (IPC) between add-on bots and client
* filesharing
Here\'s some of the problems I\'m facing:
Due to using VB6 I\'ve come across an annoying limitation. I\'m in desperate need to be able to utilize multithreading. You see upon receiving a large shwack of data from an IRC server (usually in the form of room lists or name lists of VERY large rooms - usually 400 ppl or more) Gemini will freeze until the data has finished arriving. On a server like EFNET or DalNet this can take up to 5 minutes - this is unacceptable.
Multithreading would allow for specified parts of the program to continue while the data finishes arriving - a reasonable solution. However, although there are some methods of multithreading in VB6, they aren\'t very good. So hopefully I can come up with some solution or this may become a major strike against Gemini.
oooo .... I just had a brain fart.... since I\'m gonna impliment IPC I may be able to use a seperate .exe to accept the \"shwack of data\" and then pass it over to the main .exe; Thus the data-acceptor.exe would do the temporary freeze (no biggy) while the main .exe would continue to run smoothly. Hmmm, I\'ll have to try it <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
Sorry, I\'ve begun to think outloud.
Projected release date:
Late July to Mid August
