You simply add hints like “-button”, “-rollover”, and “-link” to the end of layer names, open SiteGrinder from Photoshop’s File->Automate menu, and click the Build button. SiteGrinder does the rest. Layer naming is not only natural but also very expressive. SiteGrinder can build multiple interconnected pages complete with styled text, rollover buttons, popups, text and graphic menus, basically your entire website - all from layer names.

Easy Styled web text
Translating Photoshop text layers directly into styled web text has been impossible...until now. SiteGrinder effortlessly replicates character and paragraph styles from your text layers to styled web text. To make the experts happy we use 100% approved CSS formatting. All you have to do to tell SiteGrinder to generate real text instead of a graphic is to add “-text” to the end of a text layer’s name. You can even create scrolling text areas!
Graphical Buttons, Rollovers, Popups
Buttons are an integral part of web pages and SiteGrinder is the easiest way to make them. To the left you can see a button made from 3 layers: “clickme-button”, “clickme-rollover”, and “clickme-popup”. The names of the layers were enough to tell SiteGrinder what to do. Roll over it to see the full results. (Just to please the experts, rollovers don’t even use javascript.)
Text Buttons, Rollovers, and Popups
Buttons can be made of live web text as easily as they can from graphics. While it’s almost too obvious to mention, all it takes is adding the word “-button” to the end of a text layer’s name. It just works. Try the text button to the left to see one in action. You can specify whatever sort of rollover effect you like. Notice that text buttons can have popups too!
Simple Menus and Submenus
Creating navbars, menus and submenus on web pages can be very tricky... unless you use SiteGrinder. You can turn a single text layer into a multi-item menu by just adding - you guessed it - the word “-menu” to the end of the layer name. The submenus can be as deep as you like. You can use text buttons, graphical buttons, or a combination of both to make up your menus. If it weren’t such a cheesy sentiment we’d be tempted to say “the only limit is your imagination...”
Multiple Pages and Navigation in a single click
We don’t call it “SiteGrinder” for nothing. SiteGrinder generates an entire website’s worth of pages in a single pass. Some elements (like a navbar) can appear on every page while other elements appear only on specific pages. SiteGrinder let’s you take a snapshot of the document, with some layers hidden and others visible, to represent a given page using its Page Definition tool. Photoshop CS users can employ the new “layer comp” feature for this purpose as well. Pages generated by SiteGrinder are automatically linked to each other - no tedious and error-prone entering of URLs!

SiteGrinder uses every trick in the book (and a few that aren’t in the book) to ensure that the pages it produces are as lean and mean as possible while still looking great. Identical graphics on one or multiple pages are eliminated, CSS code is used instead of graphics whenever possible, and other techniques. SiteGrinder uses Photoshop’s own Save for Web technology for graphics compression settings, so optimization is easy.
SiteGrinder reports, you decide
When you open SiteGrinder you will see a detailed report describing exactly what SiteGrinder will build from your document and providing warnings of any potential problems. After you build your site another report tells you useful information about the build, such as average download size for your pages and specifics for each page.
