MONTREAL — Ubisoft, a world leader in video games, is creating a new studio in Quebec City and will hire 200 people, the French company announced Monday.

Ubisoft said it will invest $75-million over five years in the Quebec City project. The studio is to open in June.

Martin Tremblay, president of Ubisoft in Canada, described Quebec City as "a hub of creativity."

Ubisoft set up its first studio for video games in Montreal in 1997 with plans to employ 800 people within 10 years.

The company currently has more than 1,000 employees in Montreal, while Ubisoft now says it expects its Quebec work force to reach 2,000 by 2010.

The company is present in 21 countries.

Products from its Montreal studio include the third instalment of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series, which has sold 10 million copies, Prince of Persia Warrior Within, which sold more than 1.8-million copies within two weeks of coming out last Dec. 2, and Myst IV Revelation.
