I have some new images of the shop/office that I finally Finished,, and also a cactus that I'm told is rare and I have several others that I wanted to post and add to my website also,,, but for some reason I have them on my CD in my camera and I can view them on the cam but when I stick the CD in the drive D windows cant see anything in there.. the whole system just hangs,, if I click the D drive icon more than once I get the "Program Not Responding" window.. if anyone has any Ideas of what might be wrong let me know.. frusterating as heck!!!

Heres the facts;
cam is a Sony CD Mavica
the disk is a sony CDRW Mavica
the disk was intilized as per the instructions
Images are recorded on the CD and are able to fully view them in the cam

The CD is placed in my D drive.. nothing in windows XP can see any files on the CD in the D drive
Any other disk (back-ups/programs.. ect..ect..) can and is read fine

Is this a CD problem? or a cam problem? or a MicroSnot problem? and how do I find out??

did your cam come with any software or a usb cable? if your cam came with a usb cable, hook your cam up to the tower and then copy the files to your hdd; theoretically that should work.

barring that, I did a quick search for reviews on your cam, and this is what I found out:

Thanks for the reply Adaera.. and Yes it came with two types of CD's, one of MGI and the other from Adaptec, both have the USB driver I need to run on my OS,, only the Adaptec has "known" problems with its driver,, I've gone to Sonys site and loaded the driver that they recommend.. IF I drop the CD in the tower I still have the same problem, (even after a finalize) IF I hook up via the USB I get errors all over the place, even though the PC sees my cam as a drive E.. each time I re-boot I'm now getting errors in the windows pop-ups that tell me the drivers may be harmful to my OS and is blocking them.. /cry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

Geez you are having fun with this aren't you. Do you have a restore point set from prior to installing the adaptec driver/updates? If not, could you post exactly what the errors are that you're getting and we can try to help you fix them.

Another solution I've found instead of re-installing the adaptec drives again if you're able to restore, is to try a programme called [url=\"http://www.cdroller.com/\"]CDRoller[/url]. It does have a free trial, and a 3 year license for it is around 30.00. This programme *should* be able to recover the files off of your cam's cd. The trial is fully functional so at least you can try it before paying for it.

I'm at a total loss.. all the error I get now is "D: drive is not accesable" or E drive if I try to connect via USB.. but its only with the Sony mavica camera and Sony CD's I did find another topic and it seems allot of others have the same problem....

LOL.. what has me really confused is it always worked fine.. I did do a windows re-install several months ago,, thats why I wounder if I messed sumptin up there or missed sumptin. I did re-install roxio 5 basic.. but it really messed me up.. had to use Safe Mode to get in an out of there /help.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(help)\' /> /help.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(help)\' />

Well CD Roller recovered two disk,, but the third even has CD Roller froze!.. CD Roller is "Not Responding"

wow...I've never had any problems with my sony cams (mind you they aren't digital dvd cams either)....have you tried uninstalling roxio 5? I tend to avoid roxio as much as possible, it never ever gave me anything but problems. I notice at the bottom of the page there's a link to updates etc. from sony..I take that was no help either?

Untill this I never had any problems with my Sony eaither.. I've uninstalled everything I've loaded in the last 2 days and I'm now back to point one!..LOL /shocking.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(ack)\' />

Right the Sony updates I loaded and tried,, turns out the updates are only for useing a USB,, according to the post from "Keith, post 5" Sony knows they have a cam that wont work with Xp and they dont seem to care about it or even try to make a patch for it... /annoyed.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':angry:\' />

Have you tried updating the drivers?

Yeah I've loaded the driver and the twain,, removed them and tried it again also!..lol

I think I might have the drivers in the wrong place and/or I'm missing a folder from my Program Files to place the drivers into.. but I havent been able to find what folder or or program its suppose to go in...... not yet anyways!

Can you give us the exact error messages you get? That might help us help you figure out where the problem is coming from /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Since I un-installed all the files and programs I dont get any errors,, (go figure huh?) LOL.. the biggest one I got was a small window that poped up that just said "D: drive is not accesable", and in the case of the USB, "E: Drive is not accesable".. during re-boots I kept getting a small windows start-up pop up window telling me that the OS has reconized some drivers that may be harmful to the OS and that the OS has disabled them.. these are Not OS error windows with an error code that I can search on MSN's site.. it seems I'm missing something here but cant get a handle on it /huh.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':huh:\' />

maybe try with just re-installing cdroller and see what happens

I went ahead and bought CD Roller,, its worked fine for 2 of the CD's but theres one CD that it cant read,, maybe its just that CD.. sometimes there bad,, but sad thing is thats the one with the rare cactus one it,, I'll still work with it to see if I can save it......... It just dosent add up that I've never had this problem before and that in the past everything worked just fine,, then the re-install and now this mess.. I'm missing something,, but still cant figure out what... I've been told that Dell does something to there installs that come from the factory (what I wouldnt know),, but maybe they have a file or something that was in here that I dont.. /unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':unsure:\' />

Do you have the Dell Recovery Disk?
