A new website designed to help consumers look up programmes before downloading them officially opened today. Underwritten by Google Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc. and Chinese computer maker Lenovo Group Ltd., the site will identify spyware makers by programme name and list information for consumers about the programme. Consumer Reports WebWatch will be an unpaid advisor in regards to how the spyware criteria is applied to any reported software. Upon opening, the site will be requesting software reports which will then be carefully analyzed, with filed reports beginning to appear on the site in February.
