Thermoptic Camoflauge

In this one Ive tried to re-create the termoptic camflauge used in Splinter Cell, Ghost in the Shell and Predator. I'm reasonably pleased with the results but I think this effect will probably work better when the subject in the camofaluge is bigger, as it will displace more of the background than in this attempt. Any comments or ideas for improvment are welcome as allways. Oh yeah I used an image of the man himself Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell for this one.

Actually, toads just took a picture of me with a camera at 1,000,000,000,000,000,000x the seeing ability of the naked eye... It's nice.

Haha, thats pretty funny Dren, cus thats the whole idea of thermoptic camoflauge, to appear almost invisible. Looks like 'ole Sam Fisher has done it again!

good work, only question I have is about the angles in your camo...shouldn\'t they match the angles in the background and just appear to be a bit wavered?

Yeah I hear you Ada, and its a very good point, but thats down to the fact that I displaced an area that the camo isnt even covering. If you look over to the right of the image you should see an "anomoly" dont know if thats how you spell it, but you will see where some of the pixels have been stretched. That is where I did the original displacement but it didnt quite have the effect I wanted, and was too hard too see the "thermoptic" effect, and so, I decided to move it over to the left, and tried to make it looke like the tree on the floor was being bent by the camo. It was only after I uploaded the image and noticed my error of keeping the original displacment in the photo layer *naughty to@ds for being so slobish and lazy* I also wanted to give the idea of the camo bending the light in a way that it does in Ghost in the Shell, Splinter Cell and Predator. Its not meant to be complete invisbility, it meant to be camoflauge which makes the wearer harder to see, but not invisible, just like real camofluage does. The whole idea of camo is to get rid of defining edges that set you apart from your surounding. This helps you blend in, not fade away. This whole thermoptic camo effect is one that I will hopefully be revisiting over the next week or so, trying to achive a better result than this one. I might even get a couple of photos of myself stealthing around to use in my next attempt at recreating what I think is such a cool optical ilussion(if it can be called that).

I saw the other, smaller effect over to the one side as well; I know what effect you\'re trying to get, I was picturing in my mind the one in the 007 movie where he has the invisible car at the ice mansion (aren\'t you glad I\'m so good with movie names? LOL)
