okay...this has been bugging me for some time now but..i cannt connect to my msn messanger...or hotmail fr that matter. Whenever i type "www.hotmail.com" in my address bar it says the connection was reset by peer(on firefox) and when i try to connect to msn messanger the troubleshooter coms up and i run it and it says my computer is blocking key ports. Now i know it isnt my firewall because it wont work even if i shut my firewall off...i have no idea what it could be. I'm not sure on all of the details, but I remember Josh saying something in chat about an msn update breaking messenger for some people. He has a link for a fix, but I don't know what it is - or if that is the cause of your problem, but it's worth a try.

do you have norton firewall? by any chance...

no it is McAfee

even worse than Zone Alarm as far as firewalls go.

the msn thing, is msn's problem, josh will have to give you the link to the fix.

the web one though, could be a hijacker program, luckily it only does it to hotmail. I had one once where no matter what you typed in the address bar, it would send you to a very VERY nasty site.

As Adaera was saying, the latest (or a couple weeks ago latest) updates from Microsoft has 'broked' Windows Live Messenger. There is a simple fix which has to deal with the registry. Download the zip I've attached to this post and unzip it. Run the registry fix and restart your messenger. Try signing in after that.

i tried the registry fix. it didnt do anything to help =( is there anything special i have to do with it besides put in in the registry? like uninstall msn messanger first?

Hmm, nope. This happened to my mom also but it worked for her. I gave her the registry fix and it fixed it after she restarted her messenger...or was it her computer? Hmm... I think it has something to do with my ports cause i can barley connect to anything MSN related.
