February 5-6, 2005 - Avalon Beach
What a weekend! Reach Out Future was action packed. Thousands traveled to Avalon Beach for this awesome surf and skate event all to raise money for a great cause. Apart from amazing futuristic surfing using rail slides and jet skis there was crazy crowd-pleasing skating from the worlds best.
Electric held a meat pie eating and a mullet cutting competition, you could pick up a pair of Havaianas, free snow cones from PlayStation or a custom painted T-shirt from Mambo, scope out the Electric skate demo, race in a paddle out on inflatable with Virgin Mobile or arm wrestle a pro in the General Pants tent and plenty more.
There was unlimited action across the 2 days, kicking off with the PlayStation AllStar Challenge for the first time on Saturday 5th February, with Reg Reagan (aka Matthew Johns) and Layne Beachley turning on the best in dodge ball action for the crowd - their surfing and skating efforts weren\'t too bad either! Definite highlights were watching Dave (from Channel 9\'s \'So Fresh\') drop into the skate ramp in a massive sumo suit, not to mention the hilarious performance from the internationally acclaimed Cuban Bros.

A handful of top ranking world surfers, including Dean Morrison, Christian Fletcher (USA), Phil MacDonald (USA) and Luke Stedman battled it out at Avalon Beach on the weekend, for the title of \'most futuristic surfer\' at the fifth annual REACH OUT FUTURE surf and skate competition.
With only a modest swell to work with, first place at the event, judged on the \'most futuristic manoeuvre\' performed in an allocated time slot, went to Cronulla local, Kirk Flintoff. Klintoff\'s liberal use of the jet ski helped guarantee his $5000 in prize money - which, as a WCT surfer he donated directly to Reach Out.
Gold Coast boy, Dylan Longbottom took home \'best trick of the day\', after performing the best rail slide off the 22 metre \'surf rail slide\' set up on the beach especially for the event - via which all contestants entered the water. Longbottom\'s backflip \'rodeo clown\' manoeuvre, cemented his \'trick\' supremacy.
Ben Dunn, Jay Davies, Phil MacDonald (USA) and Dion Angus, took out 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place respectively in the surfing.

The Skateboarding hype reached new heights this year, thanks to participation of the Element US Pro Team. Influential skaters, including Chris Senn, Colt Cannon and Jared Duncombe, fought long and hard in front of a crowd of over five thousand, with Northern Beaches local Blair Heath resulting victorious - thanks to landing a hand plant on extension. Blair was awarded $5000 in prize money, which he also donated to Reach Out. First runner up went to Corbin Harris, while QLD boy based in LA, Chad Bartie took home second runner up.
A huge thanks to all involved!
With perfect weather and record attendance the 2005 Reach Out Future was declared a huge success - raising over $11,500 for REACH OUT - an internet based service that helps kids get through tough times. All prize money from the surf event was donated to Reach Out. A huge thanks to all involved!
