America\'s Army goes on screenshot parade

At first, we weren\'t sure that Rise Of A Soldier\'s promise to offer \'the most true-to-life army experience\' was really what we wanted to hear. We could live with the shouting, probably take the relentless drills and training, but getting shot at in a desert thousands of miles from home? We\'ll pass thanks. Then we remembered that, actually, it\'s only a game. And by the looks of these new screens, it could be quite an impressive game at that.

What we\'ve got here is a title funded partly by the US Army, so all that talk about \'action-packed realism\' probably isn\'t that much off the mark. Depending on how far the game is willing to take this, we\'d expect to see viciously powerful bullets making for a \'one or two hits and you\'re dead\' rule, an emphasis on finely tuned manoeuvres and teamwork, and some realistic training and obstacle courses - like in the fourth shot below. Oh, and a HUD that allows you no ability to distinguish between allied or enemy troops. Maybe.

So far, so SOCOM. But America\'s Army plans to reload some energy into the tired battalion of squad-based war games by focusing on your character and his army career. Encouraging you to specialise in a certain squad role, from sniper to pointman, you\'ll eventually be able to go through Special Forces qualification and on to leading your own Delta-Force style team. Everything sounds good to us, but we\'ll hold our excitement in reserve until we get the chance to go hot with the game itself.
