Novell and Microsoft?

Long time computer industry rivals, Novell and Microsoft, recently decided to move beyond their rivalry and into a very unusual partnership. Microsoft's Steve Ballmer called an "out of the blue" meeting with Novell's Ron Hovsepian, talking out an agreement to "bridge the gap between the open-source and proprietary software worlds". This means, making windows applications work with Novell's Linux, most famous of all is Suse, and visa-versa. When you take the news skin deep, it sounds like a good deal right? Better support for Linux, with the help from Microsoft, sounds real good to us geeks, but, it makes you think what Microsoft is up to now. You and I both know Microsoft didn't just grow morals and wake up one day and go "Holly crap, I have too much money" (they could have done that about 20 BILLION dollars or so ago). So seriously, what are we not being told in all this that would make the most powerful company one day decide "Hey, we are going to help one of our OS compitions out that just so happens to be by our biggest software rival"? I don't know about you, but I think this is just another way for Microsoft to get rid of Linux so they once again have a monopoly.
