The MultiChoice VUKA! Awards were announced at a gala awards evening held at The Bassline in Newtown, South Africa, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006.
Representing MultiChoice's flagship corporate social investment program, the VUKA! Awards encourages established and aspirant creatives to produce a TV commercial for a charity or cause that is close to their hearts in the form of Public Service Announcements (PSAs). The top 20 commercials - 10 made by professionals and 10 by industry newcomers - will be screened on DStv channels from January next year.
Competing against 160 animations, THE RUBBISH MONSTER won best animation in the professional category at this year's Multichoice Vuka! Awards.
Director Braam Jordaan, a young Capetonian who is born deaf to deaf parents, said, "I'm entirely dedicated to film and computer animation. A holiday job at an advertising agency sparked off my interest in the field."
Braam is working as a senior animator at Condor Cape Town. His short was for Endangered Wildlife Trusts. They have an Eco-Warrior Program (EWP) module that educates the youth and inspires environmental awareness amongst previously disadvantaged learners in their schools using lesson plans and activities applied directly to their immediate environment.
