When Darkness Falls

Written a month or two before my previous submission.
When Darkness Falls
Silence
Inside walls of stone;
Bleak tapestries hang,
Woven memories.
Stare down,
Far into the depths.
Eternal,
The unhealing scars.
Sorrow falls,
A cloak of red.
Red for the pain,
Red for the passion.
Betrayal,
Solid as time.
Adandonment,
Simple reality.
Which comes first,
Does it really matter
Always close
They never leave.
Fear,
Real or imagined.
Vulnerable,
Hidden truth.
Hope,
Buried alive.
Trust,
Fading light.
A swirling void,
Sorrow reaching forth
Enveloping,
Blanket of despair.
The silent sleep
A heart held captive;
Once given freedom,
Imprisoned again.
And when darkness falls
Who will you run to.
