Vizrt Introduces 2D Virtual Studio Software at IBC

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Vizrt, a leading producer of real-time 2D and true 3D graphics systems for TV, introduced its 2D virtual studio software, Viz|Ibis, during IBC 2004. Viz|Ibis is designed to open up virtual studio production to those who previously considered it prohibitive due to the cost of its technology and manpower.

While Vizrt's Viz|Virtual Studio is a full 3D virtual studio system with a wealth of features, animations, and effects, Viz|Ibis provides an easy to use, quick to learn, entry-level virtual studio. Viz|Ibis has been designed from the ground up with the end user in mind. It has its own dedicated GUI, making operation extremely easy for first-time operators. Initial installation of Viz|Ibis is also simple, requiring merely the calibration of camera lenses. No measurement of the studio or camera calibration is necessary.

Pre-produced background images serve as the virtual backdrop. Background images can be live or taped video and rendered either internally through Viz|Engine using its new "Snapshot" feature or rendered using external 3D software from Softimage, Maya, 3D Studio Max, etc.

The background image created follows the pan/tilt/zoom and focus of the camera to simulate movement within the background. Viz|Ibis supports video, image and clip polygons as well as virtual blue screen production. A variety of wipe effects can be used to open and close the video, image or clip polygons. The wipe effects are built using Viz|Artist's powerful animation capabilities. Customers that purchase the optional Viz|Artist can extend and enhance the library of wipe effects.

Viz|Ibis includes Vizrt's Viz|Engine powerful 3D renderer and Viz|IO, a studio configuration and calibration tool that enables connectivity and control between all required studio devices (such as cameras, routers, VTRs, video servers, audio mixers and other studio equipment.) Optional Viz|Artist can be purchased and used to create background images and wipe effects. Viz|Ibis can be easily upgraded to the full, 3D Viz|Virtual Studio solution at any time. Viz|Virtual Studio includes Viz|Engine, Viz|Artist 3D broadcast animation design software, Viz|Content Pilot content management and control software, and the Viz|IO interface.
