Do you smoke?
(paraphrasing from the movie "Drugstore Cowboy") .... 'most people go through life not knowing how they are going to feel from one moment to the next, but a drug addict has a pretty good idea by looking at the type of drug they are holding in their hand'
With cigarettes it's similar .... when a smoker argues with their spouce, or gets in a car accident or has to 'deal with the stress of tying their shoes' they always have the option of having a smoke which will give them a familiar feeling.
Well, there's my lame excuse for smoking <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

The thought of quitting has been crossing my mind lately; I've realized over the last little while, the only place I actually smoke now is in front of the computer when I'm working on stuff or playing a game. If I'm just chatting, I don't. Yes, one more oddity for the <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /witch.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(witch)\' />

Big waste of money which is why I never want to start. I can't stand second hand smoke either.. Did you know it's more safe to smoke a cigarette than to breathe in second hand somke? This is because a cigarette has a filter and second hand smoke doesn't.
Also, for you non-somkers, if you've ever been around someone who smokes and are away from them for about 5 minutes by yourself, hold your breathe and put lots of pressure on yourself like try and breathe out but don't let yourself and then open your mouth and watch smoke roll out of yourself <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... igwink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' /> Same goes with smokers.. <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

Actually Josh, it is equally safe, if not safer to breath second hand smoke than to breath in ciggarette smoke itself because durin the induction of the smoke, if you've ever seen someone suck the smoke into their mouth then roll it out of their mouth without inhaling, you can't see through it because it is that thick, when you breath in second hand smoke, you can barely see it, let alone not be able to see through it. Therefore you are getting nowhere near asmuch smoke as someone who is smoking the cigarette itself.
And as for unfiltered smoke, it's called 2nd hand smoke because someone has already "used" or "inhaled" it, for them to have inhaled the smoke, they would have had to breath it through the filter, and only about 1/8 of the cigarette is burnt without being inhaled, and only a small amount of people smoke cigarettes with no filter.
On that subject, between the ages of about 13 and 15, i slowly got addicted to cigarettes so much so that i was buying cigarettes for $1 each, packets would cost about $40 (through people at school that would buy and sell, rich people now). Then i would take my scissors and cut a very large percentage of the filter off the cigarette, in some cases i would only heave about 3 - 4 mm of filter on it, and if i was smoking rollies (hand made with real tobacco) i wouldn't even put a filter on it, i would just roll the end so the tobacco didn't come out.
I realised i had got myself to the point where every hour between subjects i was skipping off to the toilets to have a smoke, and at lunch time i went through about 3 in 1 hour and most near unfiltered, and also through sport i would take cycling, and i would hang at the back of the pack and hold a cigarette in my right hand on the handlebar with the actual burning end of the smoke held almost next to the inside of my palm so that no one could see it, and when i went to take a draw i would get my drinkbottle from it's holder and pretend to take a drink. I had become dependant on it, i had perfected the art of walking around school and smoking in the toilets without actually producing visible smoke. I would use the very end cubicle of the toilets next to the exhaust fan, close the cubicle and when i wasn't taking a draw i would wave the smoke subtlely back and forth so the smoke wasn't visible, and when i breathed out, i would aim it straight through the exhaust fan.
I decided after this realisation of dependancy i decided to quit, and i did it too, cold turkey, no drugs, no gum, nothing. My dad was full aware that i was smoking, and my mum was too, and she told me she would prefer me to smoke rollies as opposed to pre-rolled's because they were better for you, less chemicals, and when i could i obeyed that ruling, but it was hard when your only source of nicotine was through dealers in a schoolyard. I never once let my mum or my dad see me smoking, they knew i was, and they knew where i was going when i went for my walks, but they never tried to stop me, all i remember them saying was "It was my decision to make, and that yes it was bad for me, but it's up to me".
They have also talked to me about smoking certain other plants other than tobacco, and my mum and dad have both admitted to it and said they still do it at parties on occasion, and that every now and then it's fine, but don't let myself get addicted. I've never smoked these other things, don't intend to any time soon, although the opportunity has arised and the urge has passed me before. I've come close.
When i get old enough to start going out to pubs and clubs i may have the occasional smoke (cigarette, not other stuff). Just to be socialble, every now and then's not gonna hurt asmuch as the pack-and-a-half a day i used to.
I'm just going to say that after having being hooked, and after going the hard yards of quitting no less than 4 times, you are better off quitting.

Do you smoke?
A lot of people seem to believe smoking helps them lose weight and stay stress free.
Trust me when I say anyone can quit, I've seen one person whom no one would believe could do it, do it. Yes it took her a few years, but she done it.. and no it's not easy but it can be done.

I smoke when i'm out drinking with friends, it's only a social thing for me. But I need to stop, every morning I wake up with that taste in my mouth and find it a bit hard to breath properly. Guess asthmatics shouldn't smoke heh. *must stop*
