Graffiti - Art Or Crime?
Many people see graffiti is a crime - defacing public buildings and places; however in itself, is an art. Google defines it as "Words or drawings which are written, painted or scratched on public buildings and other public places. These designs and inscriptions are generally regarded as unsightly amd defacing the walls, fences, vehicles. They are very costly to remove"
Although that is true; art is also defined as "the products of human creativity" Graffiti is a product of human creativity. Art can be many different things whether it be paintings, drawings or graffiti on the wall. Graffiti uses all the basic forms of art : Colour, shape etc. Everyone has their own opinions, and thats why this thread is here =P

Graffiti - Art Or Crime?
It all depends where its placed, and what it is. See, i knew of people who had a like high wooden fence ( the normal wood colour) and had to paint it black because of losers tagging it with black paint, see that wasnt really exciting for anyone as it was some word that no one could read anyway. I think if it was done in a form of art then its fine, makes it better if its good. There was the old telephone switcher place building that these hippys spraypainted and made the whole building into a form of art, it was awesome, really well done but the council painted over it which pissed me off lol. There are some awesome types of graffiti, its just better if they were asked or allowed to graffiti there if its good because then it can stay and be admired

Defacing public property is a crime, simple as. In the UK they have arranged graffiti contests. Of course graffiti is art, but it can be done legally.

Yes, it is an art, but when done where it shouldn't be, it is also a crime. In orange the skate parks are legal for graffiti provided it is not obscene. And on the side of Daquino's liquor was a graffiti contest a few years ago. There should be areas that are dedicated to graffiti provided it is not obscene or anything.

They have these TV shows over here where they take people from one class and put them into another for a month and give them a test at the end. They took this fine arts student from Oxford or Cambridge, proper posh guy. They sent him to live with a bunch of graffiti artists in London. He had to learn how to graffiti in that month and at the end his test was to perform at one of these organised contests in front of judges and stuff. And if you're wondering, he passed, the judges didn't have a clue it was him that'd only been doing it for a month

If the graffiti doesn\'t cover any previous display and doesn\'t interfear with the operation of the item on which it is placed, I don\'t see a problem with it. If you get caught then yes, you should get in trouble, but the police shouldn\'t go out looking for people who graffiti things.

Love is all a matter of timing.
It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.
If I'd live in another time or place...
...my story might have had a very different ending.

graffitti is great, aslong as its done properly..and legally. the skate shop owners around where i live, will let people graffitti on the side of their buildings, provided they can show photos of their previous legal graffittying, so they can prove they are talented.
professional graffitti looks really nice. home-boy teenage

Someone spray graffitied "In ya dot" on one of my neighbours fences they must have thought they were indian or something, was kinda funny in a way.
And imagine the look of skate parks without the graffitti.. they just wouldn't be the same. *shakes head*
