Altering User Group

Post by Tami »

We currently have a user group which doesn\'t really apply anymore. \"Contributing Artist\" is pretty well defunct, I was considering changing it to \"KillaNet Designers\" and putting anyone in it who wants to work on contract projects. So far, non-admin staff would be Hoax, Ares, Sp3c, possibly Red, possibly Radar--although Radar hasn\'t taken on any in-house stuff yet; I was hoping he\'d pick up the CSS for the kg.com index, but maybe he hasn\'t seen the topic yet. We could include Rift in it, if he\'s willing to take on programming projects by contract, same with Jake. Ideas anyone?

I agree with this, but what permission masks would you give the group? Would they be an intermediate between network staff and network admin?

network staff with an extra permission to view that section, I guess. Or maybe I\'ll just make the group have the same permissions as NA, and add a Designer\'s group to the project manager, which only that group can see.

I\'d go for the network staff with the extra permission, just to tickle josh off make it a group which appears to have extra than network staff.

Okay I\'ve added the KillaNet Designer Crew group, and put a few ppl in it...Sp3c, Red, Shy.

One of you suggested a forum realignment, and I think the next few weeks might be a good time to do that. The real question is how to go about it without bruising too many egos.

I\'d like to be able to merge the two staff areas into one to lessen repetitive topics, and then have forums that are only visible to certain groups, like the Designer\'s forum and the Security forum; that should cut down more on clutter.

Both of the new groups I made tonight have the same permissions as Network Staff, plus the ability to see the forum which is pertinent to their group. Rift can see Designers, but Designers can\'t see Security.

I was considering changing Network Staff to KillaNet Staff for those not involved in site projects, then we can add secondary permission masks for different groups depending on what areas they work on outside of the forum, but again that gets complicated-plus I don\'t want to seperate things out *too* much because then people won\'t know what\'s going on, and we\'ll end up making double posts again to keep people informed. Designers needs to be seperate because that\'s dealing with contracts, and Security is self-explanatory.

About the only other sub-group I can see having merit right now would be Programmers for those working on applications, scripts, etc.

I don\'t want to offend anyone by demoting them, so adding the extra groups is one way of avoiding that, and making them into promotions instead.

Designers I think will be mostly an invitation only, based on work merits, etc.

I could make an introductory post in the staff area and say this is what we\'re planning on doing...here is your chance for input. However...before we get to that stage...I want your input on all of this lmao /blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

i like the idea of adding the new groups, sounds kind of confusing but kool /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />, anyways i think the only \"bad\" thing would be, like you said ada, bruising people\'s egos, but has humans we all heal /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />, why would anyone be offend by demoting them? but meh i know there will be fights about it, but i guess \"promoting\" to another group will help soften the blow? but meh the \"true\" members wont care /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' /> lol unno its late and i am tired so if it doesnt make sence blame shane /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Just My Two Cents,

Alot of what we could do could cause someone to moan, I think we should go ahead and try and split staff up as you said above, and deal with the whining later.

i think a \"re-alignment\" would be nice, its nice to have an occasional change here and there /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Hmmm...okay I took a look at the user groups;

Three forum staff: hoax, tech & ares (I thought hoax & ares were network LOL oops)

Hoax & Ares - they\'ve both done loads of stuff for the network, making ad banners, stuff for downloads, I suggest moving them into Design Crew,

Tech - down to member as he is hardly ever around anymore.

In Network Staff we have: Tidus, Electrix, Jake, Josh, Mobil, Radar, Ruff and Vercz

Jake I would move into Programmers and make that group\'s forum visible to Rift as well.

Mobil - has seemed more interested in looking after gaming and he\'s made the effort to contact Bandai Games for press access.

Latin - I know he wants to be more involved, he just thinks his skills aren\'t that great. Maybe now that he has PhotoShop and Bryce we\'ll see some skill development.

Electrix - he seems to be very active on the xteam forum, more so than on here. We\'re still waiting for the ecard script, Shy gave him a prodding yesterday.

Radar - I pointed him in the direction of the css for the kg.com index, I don\'t know if he took it on though, and he\'s been stuck looking after a 6 year old for the last couple of days.

RuffRyders - I know he wants more involvement, I don\'t know what area to give him; I\'m not sure he\'s much of a gamer, or I could get him to assist Mobil. I\'ll talk to him later and see what interests him.

Vercz - I asked him to alter the fortune cookie script into a tarot script which will use images last night; he had it done within an hour. We\'re just waiting for permission from the publisher of my tarot cards to give permission for image use. But again, I don\'t know what area to put him in.

Tidus - well he\'s missing in action; before Christmas I gave him a whole list of banners I needed, then he went AWOL. He did sign onto messenger last night, and I did msg him, but he never replied.

and then there\'s Josh. I guess he would go in Programmers, I\'m not sure if I will ever give him another actual site to build, unless I see alot of improvement from him.

My opinion:
Hoax & Ares - they\'ve both done loads of stuff for the network, making ad banners, stuff for downloads, I suggest moving them into Design Crew,
Agree with this one
Tech - down to member as he is hardly ever around anymore.
Yes, definatly agree - long overdue I think

Mobil - has seemed more interested in looking after gaming and he\'s made the effort to contact Bandai Games for press access.
Latin - I know he wants to be more involved, he just thinks his skills aren\'t that great. Maybe now that he has PhotoShop and Bryce we\'ll see some skill development.
Maybe best to leave them where they are for now - watch them and see if/where to change them to

Electrix - he seems to be very active on the xteam forum, more so than on here. We\'re still waiting for the ecard script, Shy gave him a prodding yesterday.
Hopefully the ecard script will come soon, if not maybe take him off the netstaff group?

Radar - I pointed him in the direction of the css for the kg.com index, I don\'t know if he took it on though, and he\'s been stuck looking after a 6 year old for the last couple of days.Leave for now I think, persuade him to try the index css

Leave in netstaff for the time being I think

Tidus - well he\'s missing in action; before Christmas I gave him a whole list of banners I needed, then he went AWOL. He did sign onto messenger last night, and I did msg him, but he never replied.
Tidus goes to forum staff I think, until if/when we get a responce from him...only fair I think

and then there\'s Josh. I guess he would go in Programmers, I\'m not sure if I will ever give him another actual site to build, unless I see alot of improvement from him.Yes, programmers is the one for him - and I don\'t think he should be given a site for a very long time
[post=\"17306\"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
I do agree with changing the netstaff group to KillaNet Staff, (Network Admin should prob go to KillaNet Admin to be consistant). Forum staff would then be empty for the time being, pending the activity of some of the above.
My two cents.
