Google Doodles

Post by Josh »

Well at the begining of this week some of us staffers were talking in staff about our birthday. While we were talking about that I was browsing through Google\'s doodles they make for holidays to replace their original logo with. I stumbled across the words:
One of the things I like best about Google is that we\'re the kind of company that, when a user writes in to suggest that we honor the once-every-122-years Transit of Venus on our home page, we actually do it!
So I said that we should try and get Google to make a doodle for us on our birthday (January 10th, 2005). So below is what I wrote Google Doodles:

Subject: Doodle request for network turning 1 yrs. old.
Date: Mon, 03 Jan 2005 10:30:14 -0600

Greetings Dennis!
Before I make this request, I must say that your doodles are very
professional, clean, and designed beautifully! You\'ve done such a great
job with all of your doodles so far :-)
There is a network which started out on January 10, 2004. They\'ve
grown so much over this year and I would really love to give them a
Happy Birthday with style! This network started out as being called
\"GraphixGround\". GraphixGround.com was your source for all your graphic
needs. Everyone was there to help, plan, and make images for other
users and just make images as a hobby. After a couple months they
combined 2 sites together, KillaNet and KillaGraphix, together they make
*KillaNet Technology Ltd.* The network has been through lots of hard
times, fun times, and amusing times. There is currently around 300
members who do all sorts of stuff. They currently provide support for
Web Programming, Basic Programming, Graphics, Software Help, and more.
KillaNet Technology Ltd. went from 1 small graphics site to /22/ quality
web sites. They\'ve worked hard to accomplish what they\'ve done so far,
and their not only expanding on the web, but they\'re expanding in
Canada. They will have they\'re own Internet/Gaming Cafe in Canada
soon. Hard work pays off as I always say!
If you could please make a Google Doodle for the Google home page for
them, it would be so much appreciated. If I can spark your imagination,
I will do so now :-P .

What they have in mind for their \"feel\" to their network is like a
little punk kid (10-12 yrs. old) spray painting the words \"KillaNet\" in
graffiti on a brick wall in an alley. You\'re very artistic and can come
up with some good concepts in your doodles, so you can do whatever you
would like. But the punk kid is a key attribute of *KillaNet*. If at
all possible, you could add the URL to their website which is
http://www.killanet.net -- Oh and remember, They\'re turning 1 years old
on /*January 10, 2005*/

Thank you so much in advanced!

Sincerely,
~Joshua Martin (The biggest Google fan at heart!)

REPLY:

Hi Joshua,

Thank you for your note and your kind words. We enjoy celebrating holidays
at Google, and we appreciate your suggestion of a doodle for KillaNet. As
you may imagine, it is difficult for us to choose which events to
celebrate on our site. We have a long list of holidays that we would like
to celebrate in the future. We have to balance this rotating calendar with
the need to maintain the consistency of the Google homepage.

Some holidays that we have not celebrated in the past will be rotated into
our holiday doodles for future years. Please remember you can visit any of
our doodles at http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html

Regards,
The Google Team

..Yeah... But I do see what he\'s saying, lots of emails get sent in for idea\'s. Maybe we\'ll get lucky if no one sends an email that day (I highly doubt)
