Hot 97 Slammed For Racist Tsunami Parody

The "Miss Jones in the Morning" show has been accused by Yonkers, N.Y.-based Asian Media Watch (AMW) of “repeated racist attitudes” and demands the program’s “elimination,” according to the New York Post.

The focal point of the watchdog's rage is a song the morning show aired that used racial slurs such as “chinks” and “Chinaman” and included the verse “go find your mommy, I just saw her float by, a tree right through her head.”

“The host broadcasts a horrifying song that mocks the dead South Asian tsunami victims ... and calls the drowning victims ‘b***hes,’” AMW director Kai Yu said in a letter to Hot 97 program director John Dimick.

Since then, both Dimick and Jones issued on-air apologies on Monday stating that the material was offensive and should not have been aired.

"HOT97 regrets the airing of material that made light of a serious and tragic event, the station said in an official statement. "We apologize to our listeners and anyone who was offended. HOT97 takes pride in its community involvement and in the last few weeks has joined with broadcasters nationwide to raise money for victims of the Tsunami.
