FireTune - the very first automated optimizer for Firefox
- used by more than 250.000 people -
... and still counting ...
FireTune for Mozilla Firefox v1.x was developed for an easy and fast optimization of your browsing experience with Firefox. It is based on a collection of popular and well working optimization settings used and tested by the experts. Usually you have to optimize Firefox manually, which can be time consuming and difficult for the novice user. FireTune helps you here - it includes all the performance optimizations. The only thing you must do is: make your selection. FireTune does the work for you.
How to tell whether Firefox is faster after optimizing it with FireTune
There's a simple way to tell whether Firefox works faster after optimizing it with FireTune. Just follow these instructions:
*Clear the cache of Firefox from the Firefox settings dialog - this is very important!
*Before you optimize Firefox, navigate to http://www.numion.com/stopwatch/ and do a speed test on http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
*The time needed to load the site completely will be displayed to you in the browser window. Write down the time
*Clear the cache of Firefox from the Firefox settings dialog again - this is very important!
*Now, close Firefox, and optimize it with FireTune
*Start Firefox again, and repeat the speed test on http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
*Compare the displayed result with the result from the test before the optimization
On our testmachine we noticed a speed improvement of 1.25 seconds - the loadtime was 3.99 seconds before optimizations, and 2.74 seconds after optimization.
FireTune is available for free.

I actually got around to using this program yesterday, and it was great. I am on a 1.5mbps connection, and firefox is now noticably faster with most websites that are able to provide that bandwidth.
All round this program speeds up the way firefox loads webpages with literally no side-effect. Highly recommended download.

Just ininstalled the tweaks and did 2 tests (always good to to 2, even better to do 3 if you want to get a decent idea of a fair result, eliminates flukes.)
First 2 tests without the tweak, cache cleared between each attempt:
04.16
04.500
And the last 2 tests with the tweaks installed, cache cleared between each attempt:
03.859
03.672.
Also those of you interested in increasing your performance of firefox even further, i urge you to check out Josh`'s thread about Secrets of Firefox 1.0.
Some very great about:config tweaks there, although i highly suggest making a backup of your config files.

I have no idea if it worked for me or not... since without the tweak, I was still hitting under a second to load the page, with the tweak made no apparent difference (in fact, with the tweak, it was ever so slightly slower).
Perhaps if I track down a significantly larger page or something...

Nothing like a dialup users opinion
Done without tweak: 32.977
Done with tweak: 35.371
Obviously not a tweak for everyone

well the sites load just fine for me, most in under 2 seconds so yeah, no need to try to make it a few hundred milli-seconds faster... but seems like a nice tweak

Before: 5.7
After: 3.2
Difference: 2.5 seconds.
This is at school and they've got an uber connection so I'm surprised it takes so long to load a single page.

And at home.
Before: 1.297
After 0.915
Edit: Oops
/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' /> Those times are for loading my own site, but it does show a good improvement.
