Writing activity

[Trinity]

In English we are working on our descriptive writing skills, and during one activity, we came up with 5 random words that we had to somehow fit into a short peice of prose. The catch was, we had to describe what the words meant, without actually using the words.

The words that we had to use were: Veteran, Lanky, Metho, Gnarled, Degenerate

And this is what I came up with:

I walked past him almost every afternoon, but I never really took much notice of him. Until now. How could I not? His hallowed form lumped pathetically in the corner of our train station, army jacket with distantly familiar insignia drawn tightly over his shoulders. Even in this state, I could imagine what he used to be. His wily arms once wielded power and force. He had been an enlisted man, I could tell by his hands. Rough and weathered, his fingers curled tightly around a brown paper bag. I couldn’t see his poison of choice, but it sure smelt more like cleaning liquid than any beverage I’d ever come across. I wondered at what point it all went wrong for this man, once the pillar of our nation, an honorable role model for those around us. What went wrong?

Perhaps some others could use the same words, but come up with different stories?

We're doing similiar things in English too. They're trying to get us to use a larger vocabulary with verbs and stuff. It's getting quite annoying actually lol...
