Silly to@ds

Post by to@ds »

Hello boys and girls, been a while since I posted, but I have been reading the forum. This is a post about stupidity, one cup of coffee and a laptops keyboard and I bet you can guess where this one is going!

Yes, to@ds being the ultimate source and wisdom that I am, thought it would be a)funny and b)inteligant (or however you spell it, Im obviously not what I am spelling) to drop coffee all over my lovely knew laptop. After two months of hard saving I thought Id get the laptop then after a month of having it drop coffee all over it!

Now the only keys that work are xcigldq and r which is just fabo, as I only know how to build sentances with these letters. The real problem is other people need me to be able to type properly.

Does anyone know if I take all my keys off and give a clean I will get any functionality? I pulled a couple of them of and they have this weird little plastic, what can I call them, "mechanism" underneath. Now I was under the impression that most keyboards have a membrane to stop this happening, obviouslyt mine dosent.

I was wondering of anything like this has happaned to others and they have pulled their keyboard back from the brink. Any help you guys could offer would be great.

Also, its amazing how many tutorials there are on the internet on how to clean your keyboard, hahaha!

Yours stupidly,

to@ds

hmm, dont worry..it happens <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

it sounds like you may have \"broken\" some of the connections, as for wiping down that circuit..im not entirely sure, mainly cause i cant remember... a dry cloth -may- do the trick...

if that doesnt work, depending on the brand/model of your laptop, you should be able to get a replacement keyboard... not entirely sure of prices, google them <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

thats all i can think of at the moment, let me know if you can clean the circuit board with a cloth or not <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

I wouldn't recommend cleaning a circuit board with any kind of cloth because it could generate static. Send it to a computer shop or something and ask if they can repair it.

Ok, I took all the buttons off and sat their looking at the mechanism that holds them in place. I saqt with baited breath as I decided to risk it and pull those off too. I got them all off ok and saw the PCB and pulled that off, which then turned into three PCB's which got me scarred. I located the coffee in question and proceeded to wipe it of the face of the earth (literaly) with a slightly damp cloth.

Then came the fun part, putting it all back together!! Clever me, forgot to make a note of how the fitting mechanism went in, and spent agies trying all these differant ways until I finaly got it. Then came the slow process of replacing them all, which took about 2 hours cus I was watching telly at the same time. I finaly got round to booting it up and went to type my password into Mcaffee, and guess what............................It worked! Yay me!

What have I learnt from this whole escapade? Dont drink coffee near your laptop!! ..................................................................Drink tea instead!
