KillaNet Version 2

Post by Tami »

Yes you read right, Version 2. The Admins have had some lengthy discussions on a few changes in KillaNet-the look, the site maps (yes there is one somewhere), and a number of changes in the way things are done around KillaNet.

First and foremost, the forum software will be upgraded this week to IPB 2.1 - this will be effective for both forums. When this happens, the arcade will no long be functional as it is not compatible with the new software. If, when proArcades updates their software to be compatible, we may bring back the arcade, but it will not be as extensive as it is currently. Only the most popular games will be re-added, so if you have a favourite one you want returning, let us know and if it works on the new version we\'ll put it back in the arcade.

The next step will be furthering our efforts at integrating all of the sites so that only one sign in is required. This also means that KillaNet\'s sites as a whole are going to undergoing a new alignment. Some areas will be moving to other domains, some will be staying, and some will be changing.

KillaNet.net will become our corporate page, and you will see a new, lighter design. You will also see a different layout/site map. The main areas will be Home, About Us, Web Properties, Contact, Advertising (on our sites), eZine, Online Store, Partners, and Press Room.

Web Properties will be a page with the main sites listed with their logo and a very brief description, along with a link to the site.

Press Room will be where we archive all press releases and other important press information.

About Us will contain a history page, our philosophy page, and a staff listing.

Partners will be those who provide sponsorship (they will most likely have site adspace as well).

Advertising will contain information on spaces availabe etc.

the eZine (which still needs a name by the way) will have several editorial departments: Graphics, Photography, Writing, Scripting, Programming, Gaming are the main ones, I imagine there will be sub departments such as Reviews (books come to mind).

the Online Store will contain everything we market for sale.

Contact will have ways to contact both KillaNet and staff, as well as different departments.

Site Realignment

The main sites will be as follows:

KillaNet.net
KillaGraphix.com
KillaCode.com
KillaHosting.com
KillaBlogs.com
KillaGaming.com
KillaDesign.com
KillaFonts.com
KillaCafe.com

We *may* add two more main domains, that is still being discussed.

All sites will have their own reference information pages and site-specific content. You will see a few subdomains move around (maybe) but there will be a comprehensive site map available on all of the pages once we are done.

Staff Realignment

We are going to be trying a new management model at KillaNet with the introduction of production teams. Each team will have a team leader (who may or may not be an administrator). If the team leader is not an administrator, then the team leader will be responsible for reporting directly to the admin responsible for that production area.

Staff members will have some say in which team they are placed on, and we do have certain staff members in mind as team leaders. Once you are on a team, that will be your primary area of responsibility. You may work on projects for another team but only with the okay of your team leader, and only if all of your team\'s projects are up to date and current. The only exceptions to being on more than one team are for Rift and David, who also work on security issues. Some admins may have more than one area of responsibility.

You are responsible, as is the rest of your team, for your team\'s projects. It is of utmost importance that all milestone deadlines are met, because there may be another team depending on those deadlines happening. Teams are expected to uphold the principals and philosophies of KillaNet, they are expected to hold production meetings as required, and everything else, we will take into consideration as far as team projects and communication areas go once we have the teams established.

Communication is going to gain alot in importance. Team leaders must communicate well not only with their team, but with the other team leaders and the admins. If there are production problems, make sure that you inform your team, and your team leader. It will then be the team leader\'s responsibility to update the admins. Being a team leader will take commitment. Being on a team will take commitment. Time management is going to become very important. Milestone deadlines will need to be realistically set dependent on the project and what is involved. No project will be undertaken without careful consideration of timelines, workload (both KN and real life), and the all important part of return on investment.

We have not worked out all of the fine details yet, but here is the basics of what we are looking at in the way of teams, the admin responsible and some of the leaders we have decided on. If you are not specifically named, don\'t take it personally, it just means I am not sure which team you would enjoy most being on. If I have named any of you, I have put you in an area you either requested elsewhere, or where I feel you would be most effective. None of these are written in stone, it\'s just a starting point. All staff have a say, and all staff are expected to find a team to work on. If you are not interested in being on a team, then perhaps it is time to re-evaluate your staff position and why you are here.

All staff members have exactly one week to reply to this thread, and replies are mandatory (with the exception of Trinity who is away on holidays; he has three extra days). Anyone who does not reply will be removed from staff. The bottom line is KillaNet is still a business, and most here have an interest in making money. As some of you have read elsewhere or seen in chat, we are moving forward rapidly so as I told Josh...sit down, buckle up and no screaming. If you see a staff member online who has not yet replied to this thread, nudge them in this direction.

Oh... has Adaera not shared that yet?
Anyway, yeah, here\'s my reply... I already had read most of this over the past few days, but I\'m here, and ready to relocate various people\'s CPU\'s and keyboards into new and exciting locations.
One might want to make note of the caption under the avatar...

Thanks for considering me as team leader, but before I give a definate yes, could you please give me a clear idea of what it would involve, like a job description. Thank you

I think staff having clearly defined roles will help killanet advance greatly, and look forward to the increased communications. Where will the avatars, brush sets etc be hosted - Killafonts?

I'm happy for the suggested positions im listed under, and i believe that those are the ones I would be most happy in. I just hope everyone responds faster then a weeks time as I'm anxious to get started on all of this. It's a nice feeling having everything so structured. I think it will definately help give people a definate goal, and help drive everybody forward in a faster and more efficiant way. Personally ill be interested to see who if anybody decides not to reply here and forfeit their opportunity to continue being on staff and help move the group forward.

Nem....they will go in freeware or in the store, it\'s up to the creator. Avatars will need to be in big collections in order to go in the store. As for duties, some of them will be the same as what you\'ve been doing...an awesome job promoting our tutorials <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' /> Alot of it will be ideas for what kinds of merchandise to carry, managing advertiser space & charges, store management etc. I haven\'t totally fleshed out the team responsibilities yet, working on it though.

Jer....yes I know you are but so what? lol

Verczeh....personally I would like to see you in site management with Paul because you are good at problem solving on sites and you do some killer layouts. Josh wants you for gaming, and you\'re also a very good writer, but ultimately the choice is yours.

Set in stone or not, I'm kind of happy with the new arrangements. More work for me, but that's okay (as long as I'm able to stick around; that is). I'm glad that things are progressing into a more business-like arrangement (Admin/Supervisor -> Team Managers/Leaders -> Members/Employees -> The Mop [wait, I didn't go there - oh but I did]). Seems to make life a bit easier for Administrators at the time as well (which obviously, we need to stop depending on for "next to everything" anyways). I think this was a good way to go; at least in terms of management and work balance.

Welp, I'll be here as long as I have a monitor and a working Internet connection. So go me..

Nice to see so many positive responses to this. I\'m going to outline what I\'ve got planned in terms of extensive forum modding as soon as I can get it done.

KH will be relaunched this week, with a much more suitable site. Then I\'m going to split my time on the new kn site and forum modding. My intention is to make killanet professional, and killagraphix what it was always meant to be - a community concerning graphics.

Lots to come, its great to see this support from everyone <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Same as Nem, thanks for considering me but what I would like to know is what would be involved in doing it and how much time consuming it would be. As ofcourse I have school and offline subjects so I can not give a definite yes.

Btw I like the idea of the new \"system\" and i think it will/should get more work done.

Here\'s my reply, I\'m glad to get the responsability as a team leader and will try to do my best to fullfill my tasks the best I can.

Jer, the fact that you are just trying is really not an issue. If you or anyone in the team have problems or questions just ask me, I will try to add every team member on Messenger so it\'s easier to ask.
