NightStorm Help Meeeeeeeee *please*

Post by Tami »

Vulture asked me to edit this so that it will work on the new server. The IP I can do, if we\'re using the main one. But....I dunno the proper server path because there\'s no httpdocs....so...I\'m stuck. Once this is done, we have to finalize the shared hosting plans & switch the layouts then it\'s ready. Vulture wasn\'t sure if he\'s going to be able to get online later today due to school but he will make every effort.

This code is for the email which goes to ppl who bought the reseller plans, and can be found in Tools>SysConfig>Email>Email Templates>Welcome>Resellers line, edit.

Well....I got the IP address changed.....

Sorry Vulture, I don\'t understand how to change the paths without breaking the script, because I don\'t know if it needs that AD_DOMAIN thing to work.

The nameservers ns1 & ns2.killanet.net have been registered (ty NightStorm for reminding me)

<NightStorm> the path for the home directories on the new server is /home/cpanel_username/public_html
<NightStorm> and Cpanel automatically suggests a username that is equal to the first 6 characters of the domain name the user is signing up with
<NightStorm> well, the new path does not use the domain name like Plesk does
<NightStorm> it uses their cpanel username
<NightStorm> and puts it in the /home directory
<NightStorm> so /home/killag would be the path for killagraphix.com if it had the username of killag assigned to it

YAY for triple posting...won\'t the ftp address for the others like gaming need to be changed to ftp://killaserver.killanet.net ?

And don\'t we need to add all of the other available games too?

Yes... and we will also want to note to them that American Army is coming soon.

I think I might make a more \'gaming based\' FTP address... or maybe a more generic. Like host.killanet.net or something...?

I guess I should probably actually look at this script, and the cpanel-intigration side of it... there is talk about it on the cpanel forum, but nothing in depth.

Also, I wanna make a note, if we could... the reseller packages are for people who either have prior experience with cpanel and WHM, or are willing to read through the documentation themselves to learn how to create and manage their own accounts... while we\'re going to have a great support service, we don\'t want to be spending all our time baby-stepping everyone through the setup process. If they are \'newbs\', they should stick with the Plesk hosting, which is more or less idiot-proof.

WHM Documentation: http://www.cpanel.net/docs/whm/
Cpanel Documentation: http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cpanel/

Also, make it clear that unless they can provide VERY valid reasoning, Gaming accounts will have to manage their servers through FTP and the CPanel interface only, as we will not be giving out SSH access except in extreme cases, and even then, only \'Jailed\' access.

Ah thank you for reminding me; a friend of Latin\'s wants AA hosting, is there any hint yet on how soon that module will be available?

I think a more generic ftp is a good idea as well.

I tried reading the modernbill help questions on their site, they didn\'t help very much <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... #>/cry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

Maybe to save time on the gaming stuff, there\'s a way to just copy all of the plans so that they are the same for every game?

I definitely agree on the not dealing with newbs thing. We have enough headaches as it is. Like now, anyone want it? <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

I think at this point, they\'re waiting on AA to release an update. The support for the game is already there, just not the install file for the game itself.
I suppose if I *really* wanted the trouble, I could go in and build my own copy, but its such a pain in the ass having to install the game on the server just to package it up.

Okay; we can wait on the install file. While it would be nifty to have our first gaming client, it\'s not that big of a deal and I don\'t think the income would be worth the extra headache.

<img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/good.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(Y)\' /> on having TeamSpeak support installed & working <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

I have to get to work but I\'ll try to make it as short of a time there as possible, then maybe we can figure out these damn shared hosting plans and get ready to go live.

We should be able to keep the spammers....I mean, marketers busy all weekend getting the word out somehow.

I was thinking of putting a press release in next week\'s paper, but I dunno yet how much I want out there locally while I\'m still working on a business license....considering I don\'t have one for running a home business, which is what this currently is ... ooops.....
