Those Who Still Remember

Post by Tami »

This piece began forming in my mind as I walked back to my truck after today's Rememberance Day ceremony. I was watching a veteran walking on the opposite side of the street. He was dressed in full uniform, and even though he was no longer on the parade ground, he still walked tall and proud in a relaxed march. In that moment, for as many ceremonies as I have been to, for as many veterans as I have known over the years, it struck me as to how much those men and women gave, and still, so many years later they still carry the pride and freedom of our country in their hearts. Something we should never, ever forget, even with all of the war and turmoil and threats people around the globe face daily, we need to remember and honour those who gave their lives so that we could live with the freedoms they gave us.

The rain pelted down
The wind blew in wild gusts;
Still they stood tall,
Uniforms spotless
Medals shining on their chest.
Tears for the fallen
Held back in silent pain.
The freedom they fought for,
The comrades they lost.
The bugle sounded
One Last Post;
Proud they stood
As the bombers flew over;
Our flag at halfmast
Lowered in honour
For those who never returned.
The guns remained silent
While their echoes were heard
Deep in the past
Of those who still remember.

Love is all a matter of timing.

It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.

If I'd live in another time or place...

...my story might have had a very different ending.
