When it comes to 3D modelling you are not going to make something so magnificent everyone is going to bow down before you and worship your art. You need to start small. Character modelling for most people takes many years of education as they model the proportions, proper anatomy, and many many many other things go into it.

Start with a simple object, such as a pencil, a cup, or a spring. You need to start small and build your knowledge up. I\'ve only been working with 3D for 1.5 years, and I do not have any great skills yet. I\'m still learning the bear essentials.

Also, if you can\'t afford C4D, I suggest either getting a student license or going to a free modeller or a realatively cheap modeller. (Google \"Milk Shape 3D\", \"Anim8or\", or \"Google Sketchup\")

www.3DAttack.net other than that, no I don\'t know of any communities that are as helping as C4DCafe. C4DCafe has spent countless hours putting together so many video tutorials for your learning. I would suggest sticking to their tutorials as they will teach you a lot.
