New website design

I got really bored at work so I made this. Tell me what you guys think [attachment=2482:attachment]

For some reason I don't think that's english... Nice though, don't like the huge navigation area but it works.

Nice looking design, but alittle bit plain in my opinion. I also agree that the navigation section looks to big. You dont seem to have left yourself with a very big content area either. Is the information on loged in users really necasary? Id say yes if you have a big user base but Im guessing you dont just yet. Also, the contact us here section could be got rid of by adding a simple text link at the bottom of your page, or by including it in your links section. The colour scheme seems to be ok but you layout could do with a little tweaking. Right now it just donset have a wow effect, looks like a pretty standard tutorial driven layout.

Thanks guys, As for the information on logged in users...I didnt deisgn this for me...or for anyone in that matter. I did it just as some practice for designing. I made it with a company with a larger customer body in mind.

The contact us here section is there because originally there was nothing there. And i couldnt think of anything to but there. And without anything there its just alot of open space and it looks rather tacky

The colors didnt turn out quite the way I wanted to. I wanted the red bars to have more of a glassy look to them but I didnt know how to go about acheaving this so what you see is what i got in the end.

And the wow effect to my sites is well on the way. I think im getting better with every design I do and i dont think it will be long before i have another breaktrhough on my designing skills..

like dren said, it is nice, but plain. and no its not english, if i am correct, its actually random char gen make to kinda look like word forms, to give you a better idea of what it would look like rather than STUFF STUFF STUFF (ect).

apparently everyone but me knew what i was sayin lol. but i looked at the banner at quick glance, and the colors kinda look like dren i guess, cuz thats who i posted lol

maybe darker colors, the brightness is too BAM! IN YOUR FACE!

I think there needs to be something to grab your eye abit which should hopefuly help break up the design abit more on the eye. At the moment it all looks the same, and I dont mean that in a bad way because continuity is always important on a site, you just needs something to help your eyes be drawn to each section nice and easily. I think shrinking the right hand side down abit would help too. You could also maybe add something into you header graphic as well, use it to bring some more life and colour in the page, at the end of the day you want to show off your skills in your design and a nice eye catching header is allways one way of doing it which I know you can.

I do really like the design youve come up with so far, you've achived a nice looking layout that is pleasing to the eye and nice and clean looking but I think you could polish it up into something that would look even better. Go around and surf other people's portfolios out there on the net and get some ideas from other peoples sites and get inspired

I like the colours.. just the left section could be much narrower imo!

agreed with a few of the comments so far, but I think the whole \'too plain\' thing would be less apparent once there\'s some proper content (like images/headings etc.) in the main section, so if it was me, I wouldn\'t really change anything there. Otherwise you\'ll have too many distractions away from the content, and you don\'t want Jakob Nielsen on your ass, his heuristics are the law in some eyes <_<

agreed that the header could be improved somehow though, bit more colour there maybe?

I\'d love it, if your colour scheme was more earthy... but atm, i\'m not sure if it\'ll go well with the red?
