It\'s nearly 20 years since the despicable Dracula first faced the wrath of the heroic Belmont family in the original Castlevania. Since then the brave souls from every branch of the Belmont family tree have struck out against the forces of darkness, most recently in the simply titled Castlevania on PS2. Now the fang-tastic franchise returns, but the Belmonts are gone and a disgruntled Dracula employee is our last hope.

Hector is one of two Devil Forgemasters (monster creators) that honed their monster summoning talents under the tutelage of the infamous vampire lord. But apparently, Hector and Drac\' have a falling out and Hector storms out of Vallachia to lead a normal life, taking his demon dabbling talents with him.

But with Dracula dead (again), Hector\'s former co-Forgemaster Isaac points the icy finger of blame in Hec\'s direction and he must take up his mighty sword against the nasty creatures he once created.

Sword? Yes, you heard correctly, the Belmonts\' trademark whip weapon is no more as Hector fights the legion of the damned with a far more sensible \"dirty great blade\". But the new hero and new weapon-of-choice are not the only new additions.

As a Devil Forgemaster, Hector can summon \"Innocent Devils\" to ally with him and help him fight, travel and solve puzzles. Over 30 of these groovy ghoulies can be called upon, each with unique abilities that evolve as you battle your way through the shadowy levels.

Despite these changes, the full-on hack and slash action of the series is retained, and far from forcing us to take up pitchforks and burning torches to storm Konami\'s HQ, this new Castlevania has us salivating like a vampire in a blood bank.
