Final GameTap Preview At DigitalLife Conference
NEW YORK, October 14, 2005 ? Breakdancers will mix with video gamers as GameTap gets a final road show send-off at this year's DigitalLife event. Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.'s first-of-its-kind broadband entertainment network, GameTap will preview in booths 854 and 954. It will launch October 17th.
"We've had limited engagements since May when we unveiled GameTap at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, so it seems fitting to end the tour in New York City at this wide-ranging celebration of digital culture," said Stuart Snyder, GameTap's general manager. "After that, GameTap is 'opening wide' to a mainstream audience."
GameTap combines games-on-demand with original programming via a broadband connected PC. The all-games-all-the-time network gives subscribers a growing galaxy of game titles. Nearly 1000 games are under license, and the network will launch with hundreds of titles from at least 17 publishers. Additionally, game play has the familiar look and feel of the original experience, including full 3D animation.
GameTap will also be represented at DigitalLife by Turner's James Glasscock, who represents the company in the new media space. He will speak at the DigitalLife workshop "The Future of Entertainment Delivery and Distribution" on Friday, October 14 at 2:00 PM in the DigitalLife Theater.
The GameTap vault includes arcade titles like Asteroids, Centipede, Defender, Dig Dug, Galaga, Joust, and Pac-Man; console games originally found on the Dreamcast (Crazy Taxi, Hydro Thunder), Genesis (Altered Beast, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic the Hedgehog), and Atari 2600 (Adventure, Pitfall); and PC games like Beyond Good and Evil, Myst, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Publishers include Activision, Atari, Eidos Interactive, G-Mode, Intellivision Lives, Midway, Namco, SEGA, TAITO, Team 17, Ubisoft and Vivendi Universal Games
About GameTap
GameTap provides subscribers an "all-you-can-play" gaming service accessible from up to two household computers. To access GameTap, players securely download and install Turner-developed client software from www.gametap.com that acts as a gateway to the GameTap vault. Because games reside securely on the PC, not across a network, they act just as if they were still on the console or at the arcade. Fast response times, 3D effects, colors, and characters are all present and accounted for. GameTap supports navigation and game play using keyboard and mouse, as well as most USB peripherals.
