Nintendo Revolution (Controller)

Post by David »

So it's all over now, everyone knows exactly what the Nintendo Revolution Controller looks like. And if you don't, here's a picture:

Needless to say, it's a remote control. You will be able to plug it into a more "conventional controller" - but more or less, this is what you'll be using unless you want to buy a bunch of other stuff so you don't use a wirelees remote control. There is also a teaser video out, showing people playing the revolution with the controller.

You can see that Here

That's all I have for today people. Discuss...

Here it is in use...

Now I have a question and I don't think you could answer it... lol. In that teaser video it shows them using the controller/remote as a baseball bat, fly swatter, etc -- Will it be used like that? Do you think it's going to communicate with the game console through movement or is that just the way the people used the controller?

It's actually going to be based on movements. How fast you "swing", or "reel" the fishing rod in, etc are all factors that are going to be affected by your movement with the controller itself. It has a controller on it (the d-pad) but it's not going to be used for too much as its motion-based control is going to be its prime usage. The extra bit (the gamecube/n64 style d-pad) will just be in case you don't want to use it in all cases.

It's one of the most interesting concepts I have ever seen for a controller tbh

It's.. different.. I still don't know if I like it or not yet, guess i'll just have to test it out before I make a decision on it. I think Nintendo are very brave for coming out with this though.

It's something new, we just have to get used to it. Same with the N64 controller, I had to get used to that the first time I used it.

Yeah that would be cool to use, using it as a sword for a game like Shadow The Hedgehog or something. And though I'm not really a Zelda fan, I would try the FP Zelda game to try the sword game out.

What we mean is, it makes us feel like we are Harry Potter <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/good.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(Y)\' /> Not playing Harry Potter. And that helps too, it helps you get sucked into the game more.

I'm still up in the air about this one. The controller may be innovative and all, but sometimes you do have to draw the line. Can you imagine multiplayer games? People will just be bopping one another in the head while waving the thing around. lol. But the fact is, you can plug normal controllers into the "wand" controller - so I guess that's a good thing. I don't think I'll be using the "wand" controller much at all.

I hate to tell ya, but you don't have a choice about using the "wand", as you call it, or not. Yeah, you can plug a N64 control stick into the "wand" to play the N64 games as well as some of the other games, but people smacking eachother in the head are people who are just idiots to begin with, I dunno about you guys, but I know when I'm playing multiplayer games, we're not all crammed into a couch; we're spread out on the couch and floor. I don't doubt a few people will be hit in the head, but few games will be multiplayer and having you swing all over the universe. And if you haven't seen it yet, Nintendo has a video about the Revolution on their website under the "Revolution" section, you'll see 2 things saying VIDEO in the middle of the screen, but they are pretty small. Click the left one and it kind of shows how the controller can and probably will be used in various games. Wario Ware may feature another fly swatter game like the one in Wario Ware: Touched for the DS. Anyways, it shows how 1 person, 2 people, and 3 people can play. I don't honestly doubt a few people being smacked, but they just need to spread out more. Since it's wireless, it's not like you all have a physical limit on your distance. Now for that Harry Potter thing mentioned earlier, I can't stand Harry Pothead and I sort of see how you'll think you're him while waving it around like a magical wand, but seriously, that's not exactly something that jumps into my mind. I thinky ou have to have HP on the mind to begin with to really think that.
