How to Update the Forum

How to Update KillaNet's IP.Board
---------------------------------------------

Before doing anything, log into IPS and download the latest version and extract the files.

1. Upload everything in the root directory first.
- DO NOT UPLOAD CONF_GLOBAL.PHP.DIST
- DO NOT UPLOAD HTACCESS.TXT

2. Upload folders 'admin' and 'converge_local'

3. Ignore folder 'install'

4. Go into 'ips_kernel' on your local computer.

5. The folder 'i18n' is 10MB so we never upload this. However, if you want to be thorough, you can check for new files. Leave it for now.

6. Upload everything in 'ips_kernel' except for folder 'i18n'

7. Upload everything from folder 'jscripts' down to 'sources'

8. Upload the 'upgrade' folder.

9. If you get a blank page when you go to the forum homepage, do the following:
- The server cannot deal with mysqli.
- Change ips_kernel/class_db_mysql.php to uncomment 'FORCE_MYSQL_ONLY'

10. Go to [url=\"http://www.killanet.net/forum/upgrade/\"]http://www.killanet.net/forum/upgrade/[/url]
- Follow the steps shown on-screen.

11. One of the last few things to do is to get rid of the "Powered by IPB" notice in the title. It's not against the license.
- Comment out $cp in source/action_public/boards.php

12. The forum is now successfully updated.

13. To make sure our forum is search engine friendly, make sure you download and install FURL mod (This can be found on invisionize.com)

Thanks Josh... Question, though.
Do we need to be at all concerned about skin updates, or are they pretty universal?

When we updated the forum all the skins were completely screwed up. I logged out and logged back in and they were fine -- I'm not sure if that was because of Buzzard playing in the ACP or if that was just something that fixed itself. The updater rebuilds the skin cache for each skin, though. We didn't have to do anything with the skins though that I know of. Buzzard may have done a tweak or two and if so I'll update this thread.

There will be skin changes, depending on the upgrade. Most of them will be small and not noticeable. Ideally we run a differences report in the ACP and fix the differences, but the server doesn't like this.
