Macromedia Announces FlashPaper 2; New Release Converts Any Document to Flash and PDF Formats

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2004--Macromedia (Nasdaq:MACR) today announced Macromedia® FlashPaper(tm) 2, the simplest way to convert printable files into universally sharable electronic documents. Macromedia FlashPaper 2 enables leading desktop applications to create documents that can be instantly viewed within any web browser. For off-line archiving and e-mail distribution of electronic documents, FlashPaper 2 also supports the standard Adobe PDF file format. FlashPaper 2 is included with Contribute(tm) 3 (announced today, see separate release) on Windows and Mac OS X, and is a component of the new Macromedia Web Publishing System (announced today, see separate release). Single licenses of FlashPaper 2 will also be available as a standalone product for Windows for only $79. \"Macromedia FlashPaper 2 provides a unique solution for knowledge workers and web professionals who want to display documents online,\" said Erik Larson, director of product management, Macromedia. \"FlashPaper documents load instantly inside a web browser, delighting content creators and web visitors alike.\"

FlashPaper 2 creates documents that display online by leveraging the ubiquity of Flash Player, which ensures it can be immediately experienced by more than half a billion web users. This means FlashPaper documents open in less than a second directly in web browsers.

\"FlashPaper 2 lets me offer clients a simple and effective way to distribute all their documents. Users who can select, copy, and search online documents become more involved and active than traditional readers,\" said Phillip Kerman, Flash programmer and book author. \"There are definitely alternatives, but nothing that leverages Macromedia Flash and offers as much customization as FlashPaper.\"

FlashPaper 2 provides one-click generation of web-friendly Flash(tm) format documents that can be published using web-editing tools including Macromedia Contribute, Dreamweaver®, or any HTML editor. This new version creates Flash documents that include integrated support for text search and selection, hyperlinks, and bookmarks. FlashPaper integrates with all Microsoft Office products on Windows to enable intuitive creation of both Flash and PDF files from a simple in-product menu.

FlashPaper documents can be integrated into any existing website, Flash project, Macromedia Breeze(tm) presentation, or Macromedia Breeze Live meeting.
