I still find violence disturbing, however when watching a movie it doesn't seem to bother me as much, depending on the circumstances. Slasher movies have no effect on me, but scenes involving domestic violence/abuse are very hard for me to watch-possibly because I've been in that situation. How about the rest of you?

I think todays society is too desensitised to voilence, many people dont actually realise what went on in iraq, or exactly how many lives were actually lost in 9/11. Slasher flicks desensitise people to voilence, indefinately. I cant stand movies with lots of violence, it actually makes me literally sick.

Ok, assuming I've got the right interpretation of the word "desensetised" ....
I find domestic violence disturbing, I share views with ada.
I could watch any movie, as gory as they come, but when it comes to watching a fight at school or something, I'd rather not watch, yet almost everyone I know would be shoutin "fight fight" <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... Debate.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(debate)\' />
so I think a lot of society is indeed desensetised.

We have 1200 people at our school and we have an average of about 4 fights per day, and one injury per day, one hospitalisation a week. <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />. desensitized: To render insensitive or less sensitive.

Therefore, society doesn't react to violence in the same way it used to. Is that right?

yes...and how there seems to be more blatant violence on tv instead of implied violence like there used to be, etc etc etc

I don't really think people react diffirent then they used to. Let me explain this, people used to react quite severe to any form of violence but because there were no laws to set a punishment. So the punishment would be diffirent in severel regions. Today we have laws that set the punishment, this will be quite the same in any region except for some details. Therefore the reaction from the people will be the same but the punishment will be diffirent. Also our society is getting quite "used" to seeing violence on TV but i don't think it affects their reaction.

That's what I think about it, if you don't like it. Bummer <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

I'd have to say no...

2 or 3 generations ago, around %60 of people would have experienced war in some way, whether it be bomb raids, trench warfare, hospitals etc. Millions of soldiers people had dealt with extremely violent death, including children.

Today, people see violence in movies and on TV, but I think that there is an understanding of reality. An example of this is the Washington Sniper event a year or so ago. People reacted with horror and outrage at the violent shootings. No amount of sniper or terrorist movies could desensitize people from this. 80 years ago, many men and women would have had experience with sniper deaths.

I think that society is slightly desensitized because motion pictures have so much realistic violence in them that people are starting to think it's ok. They see the violence, and at the end, nobody is really "dead". Then pictures come on the news of what's happening in the world and people's minds just see it as another movie where the good guys win and nobody dies even though there is nothing left of the building they were fighting in.

If that makes any sense :/
Love is all a matter of timing.

It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.

If I'd live in another time or place...

...my story might have had a very different ending.
