Directions, Ponderances & Other Wonders
I\'ve been doing some pondering on what was discussed during our spontaneous admin meeting last night, and here\'s what I\'ve written down. I\'ve tried to put them in some semblance of order, but you all know what my thought processes are like.
Potential Advertising & Other Income:
KillaGraphix: ad-free except for advertising our own stuff
GraphixGround: has advertising potential, even if it\'s just google ads, plus the added potential of tutorial cd\'s for the different categories once we have enough of our own tutorials written for ps, psp, etc.
KillaFonts: Software affiliations such as font creators, viewers, etc; advertising income from same sources; potential for font collections should there come a time when we actually create our own fonts or font applications.
KillaBlogs: Advertising potential, plus subscription potential for ad-free blogs; perhaps the marketing of our blog script although I am reluctant on that one, not sure why.
KillaHosting: Advertising potential as well as potential income from site designing. Obviously there will be hosting income.
Sci-Fix: Advertising potential, possibly subscription income if the site is developed enough with a good e-magazine.
Cauldron Crafts: Advertising potential as well as income from the sale of needlework patterns and possibly other stuff such as pagan graphics, etc. We could add some affiliates here, as there are many available in the pagan world.
Downloads: Advertising potential, as well as software affiliation. We could consider an off-shoot site which will only have our own developments on it, whereby we could gain cd income or individual collections income. If we do an off-shoot, I think it\'d be best to have its own domain name.
Code Crypt: Advertising potential as well as software affiliation with editor/compiler programmers. Again, the sale of our own script collections could be a consideration but that is up to the authors.
Laughter On Tap: Advertising potential
Rate My IQ: Advertising potential
Killanet: exile has spoken about turning this into a gaming site, which would have a huge advertising potential and could be a venue for any games developed.
Other Sources of Income Without Alot of Work:
Put these domains up for sale: OSS.ca; Onestopinternet.net; Onestopdomains.net; bootme.to and blastme.to
Not going to renew: tcnstaff, plus any of the above domains if I don\'t manage to sell them
Considering not renewing: anonybot.com; ratemyiq.com (unless we actually do something with it, still waiting on Ruff)
Doubtful to renew: tcn007 but then again I might keep it for one more year
Still thinking about: networxradio, we\'ll see how it goes up until renewal time
Learning Sites:
At this point in time, these sites are to be considered our \"teaching\" sites: Laughter On Tap, Networx Radio, Sci-Fix, Anonybot, Bootme/Blastme, Cauldron Crafts and Sci-Fix
Advertising:
We will need to research going rates; as for ways to charge, by the month seems to be the best for us as it requires the least amount of maintenance, even though we will still have to keep track of click-throughs to make sure that clients are getting their money\'s worth. I\'m not sure if we should put this on its own domain, at this point in time I am thinking yes, to keep it separate from the other sites and their focus. Banner ads are pretty standard in size, we will just have to decide which sizes we will offer. We will also need a privacy, terms of use, and contract forms. Income will have to be tracked and billed appropriately, and this is why I think a month to month type of agreement would be best, as we can do subscriptions through PayPal. I will have to come up with some type of financial tracking, I guess excel would probably be the most logical, which means I will have to actually open it and learn it. blech. We will also need to find places to list our advertising service, and come up with some darn good reasons on our info page as to why people should advertise through us. We need to have very accurate site stats, and do we wish to provide our advertising services to people who are looking for advertising? If so, this means a whole new set of things to consider, like payments to those sites for carrying the ads. We would be charging an agent-type fee for placement, most likely 15-20% of the advertiser\'s monthly cost, with the balance going to the site where the ads are placed.
Should we decide to offer store fronts like cafe press, that is both another venue for displaying ads as well as earning income. We could charge one fee for just a store front with one ad, or another fee for a store front with no ads.
As for our own KillaGraphix store, I think it should carry only our own network products; although the problem here is, we could lose potential income if anyone should decided to sell prints etc. through the KG store, as we certainly don\'t have the means to sell products like cafe press, although I think we could get at least a printing contract from somewhere for prints. If people want to have store fronts, we will have to make it clear they are responsible for any products which aren\'t downloadable or shippable on a cd. More on that later, I think.
All of our sites are going to need privacy, terms of use, and subscription agreements (on those which offer them). The most important ones will be hosting and blogs at this point in time, I think. I also need to look more into all of the software affiliation information I have collected.
Trinity was right when he suggested that we need to come up with a 3-4 colour scheme which is specifically KillaGraphix; a background colour, midtone, highlight, outline and possibly a gradient. The fonts we seem to use most are Verdana & Another Typewriter.
I am still pondering the KillaGraphix webring, as this is really unbeatable free advertising if we can get people to join the ring; I am also still pondering on whether or not to put it on its own domain or a subdomain. The ring graphics themselves will need to be in KG colours, simplistic yet classy and easily identifiable as ours. Of course, they must also stand out from the crowd.
For KillaHosting, I feel that we need to keep our offerings limited to a few manageable account options, basic, not so basic and even less basic; this is simply to make them easier to manage, and again we can use paypal subscription for billing. We could go back to using WHM Autopilot if you wish, it\'s only 20.00 per month, but again that cost will have to be covered by our hosting agreements. Wasn\'t webadmin free, and Scott it was fairly easy to use, wasn\'t it? I can\'t really remember. I would like to see our account offerings kept affordable but realistic; maybe a special for kg network members, I dunno. As long as costs are covered, that\'s what is most important to me.
We also need to decide if we are serious or not about offering web & site design, and if so, should it go on its own domain? I have a name in mind, just say yay or nay and I\'ll nab it. If we\'re serious about it, we have to commit to making it work (along with our 900 other projects) Perhaps Envy will be someone to consider bringing in, as he is good with html, and he has a strong desire to earn money. I still think he would do well under tutorage of Scott, Paul & Tom.
We (mostly me because I seem to lacking in this these days) also need to focus more on where we are going; I know I haven\'t been very focussed for awhile and I will work harder on doing that. It will be alot easier once I am done work--of course I\'ll probably have to find another job as I have these things called bills to pay--but ideally I would love to be able to devote 100% to KillaGraphix. To that end, we need to get a definite focus on the direction KG will be going and what we are working towards, a Mission Statement, so to speak. We sort of have a public one in our About info, but I will need a more indepth one if we\'re to get any type of government financing-and in order to apply for any funding, exile and I have to decide what our plans are. In order to get the funding, alot of basics have to be met, like proof personal money has been used to fund the project (no problem there) as well as proper company registration and banking information. Again, that can\'t be done until exile & I figure out what we\'re going to do.
I will have to come up with some type of standardized accounting & reporting system for the whole network, and again excel is looking like the best option (blech). We will also need to come up with standardized or easily adapted contracts for each subscription and/or other service we are going to offer.
Last but not least---I think---what we are going to need for site coding as I understand it (prolly wrong but so what)
-basic site layouts, easily edited & with css cuz I am not editing a kazillion html pages
-Ad/banner rotation
-Client Management: sign up, sign in, tracking, options--Hosting, Advertising & Subscriptions
-Sales Tracking: hosting, subscription, advertising
-Traffic Management: hits, visits, click throughs
-Blog, Forum etc etc etc
-Offerings of site template for KH customers? I do have all those damn templates that Jeff made me buy but most of them are really icky.
Okay I think I have come to the end of my rambling ponderment which means I\'ll have to find something else to keep my mind occupied--maybe I\'ll cover whatever it was I said I\'d put more on but haven\'t really done so. I know there is alot here to think about, but I think we really need to get more focus on what we are doing, what we want to accomplish and how we\'re going to get there. This is going to take alot of discussion, maybe some heated, but I think in the end we\'ll all come to what\'s best for KillaGraphix because that\'s just the way we work together. If it wasn\'t, most of us wouldn\'t still be working together after all the b.s. we\'ve been through on our little adventures of the past year or so. Anyway, discussion floor is open, let\'s make this a good productive one--and I know you\'ll let me know if I\'ve overlooked anything <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

Directions, Ponderances & Other Wonders
First and foremost - yes we need advertising. I'm not totally sure how we would go about it php wise, scott's probably best for that. I'm going to have a look at blogger and see how they incorporate their adverstising.
A webring would be a good way for us to get advertising, but I think that that is something that will need to wait.
Personally, I think that we should concentrate on getting a homepage done properly, with a membership system and forums - then grow that into the rest of the network.
Analogy: A tree doesn't grow its branches first, it grows its roots first. The kg homepage is our roots! We need to make sure they are firmly planted in the ground, and THEN we can start growing branches, leaves and pretty little flowers <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' /> For instance, if we did a membership and advertising system for killagraphix, then we could go to all the other sites and use the same membership and advertising system, without having to make it 10 times - and the whole network would be connected.
Networx radio, bootme.to, blastme.to and quite a few other sites could be offered as part of the killagraphix homepage. We don't need to make them all seperate domains, we can have them as services or whatever - [url=\"http://xtmembers.com\"]http://xtmembers.com[/url] is an example. They have quite a few things combined in one page, whereas we have them over a number of different sites, with different layouts and php and everything else. We need to simplify the network down.
I know a lot of work has gone into the network sites so far, but I think it would be better if we redid the killagraphix homepage, and then moved on from there.
With KillaHosting, perhaps we can incoporate a lot of things into that. For instance, killahosting (or another name if we want - killaservices???) could include:
- Hosting
- Web Design
- Redirection (like bootme and blastme, but with killagraphix domains)
- Image hosting (killanet.net)
- Templates
Just an idea. I don't think web design needs a seperate domain - that just means one more site, database etc etc...
Umm thats all i can think of at the moment, I will probably add some more as people post. After everyone has posted and some ideas are coming through, a live meeting might be an idea (while ada is in Australia - means she and Dave can have some stuff to discuss RE: where they want to go/what they want to do).

I totally agree with the kg homepage getting done first and yes we could offer alot off of there through subdomains; when we first started, I figured we had the domains, might as well use them. I don\'t know how much would have to go into recoding the NR site to move it, but if I can sell one more domain that would be a good thing. I don\'t know if I want to offer domain registration, it\'s really not that profitable unless you do alot of registering. A big part of the problem is that I have too many ideas too quickly and I wanna do them all. I think that maybe a total re-alignment might be necessary, which yes means moving the opening again but I can live with it if the rest of you can. Anyhow, we\'re going out to see King Arthur, so you all get your two bits in, and we can discuss more later.

I think advertising is the way to go, obviously (you said this too i think) related to the site/server
[i]Killanet: exile has spoken about turning this into a gaming site, which would have a huge advertising potential and could be a venue for any games developed.[/i]
Very good idea, internet gaming, even though i dont it seems to be very popular, definatly a revenue (right word) that should be explored.

I agree mostly with that, i think anonybot could be popular if it worked, lol, but there are alot of sites like that out there, perhaps we could just have it as another feature on killagraphix, you know what i mean?

Argh i cant remember exactly what i thought about this, i agree, of course we need to kind ahave it a bit cheap to get in the punters, perhaps we could offer semicheap for like smallish ones, then for a decent sized one a bit more? Or special offers for like a montly thing, i dunno.
[i]Trinity was right when he suggested that we need to come up with a 3-4 colour scheme which is specifically KillaGraphix; a background colour, midtone, highlight, outline and possibly a gradient. The fonts we seem to use most are Verdana & Another Typewriter.[/i]

This is true, i mean it wouldnt be hard for some smart cookie to realise they were paying for advertising when they could join our webring for free

Thats true, perhaps kind alike have a trial run, see how many people would actually be willing to get good, decent hosting, i mean if Jeff can do \"well\" with <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... nsored.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(cens)\' /> hosting, we can do even better with GOOD hosting!
[i]We also need to decide if we are serious or not about offering web & site design, and if so, should it go on its own domain? I have a name in mind, just say yay or nay and I\'ll nab it. If we\'re serious about it, we have to commit to making it work (along with our 900 other projects) Perhaps Envy will be someone to consider bringing in, as he is good with html, and he has a strong desire to earn money. I still think he would do well under tutorage of Scott, Paul & Tom[/i]
I kinda disagree on this, its kinda alot of work to jump into just yet, perhaps we could first get a site like skinsntemplates, with loads of templates etc that some are free (teasers) then the say full version etc cost, then perhaps offer payment for made ones?
[i]We (mostly me because I seem to lacking in this these days) also need to focus more on where we are going; I know I haven\'t been very focussed for awhile and I will work harder on doing that. Again, that can\'t be done until exile & I figure out what we\'re going to do.[/i]
YES YES YES! ok i finally replied, while your out get some stock photos, ok thanks <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... sleep3.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(zz)\' />
This is something you need to learn to control!
[i][size=1] KillaGraphix: ad-free except for advertising our own stuff
Rate My IQ: Advertising potential [/size][/i]
I think advertising is the way to go, obviously (you said this too i think) related to the site/server
[i]Killanet: exile has spoken about turning this into a gaming site, which would have a huge advertising potential and could be a venue for any games developed.[/i]
Very good idea, internet gaming, even though i dont it seems to be very popular, definatly a revenue (right word) that should be explored.
[i][size=1]Put these domains up for sale: OSS.ca; Onestopinternet.net; Onestopdomains.net; bootme.to and blastme.to
Not going to renew: tcnstaff, plus any of the above domains if I don\'t manage to sell them
Considering not renewing: anonybot.com; ratemyiq.com (unless we actually do something with it, still waiting on Ruff)
Doubtful to renew: tcn007 but then again I might keep it for one more year
Still thinking about: networxradio, we\'ll see how it goes up until renewal time[/size][/i]
I agree mostly with that, i think anonybot could be popular if it worked, lol, but there are alot of sites like that out there, perhaps we could just have it as another feature on killagraphix, you know what i mean?
[i][size=1]At this point in time, these sites are to be considered our \"teaching\" sites: Laughter On Tap, Networx Radio, Sci-Fix, Anonybot, Bootme/Blastme, Cauldron Crafts and Sci-Fix[/size][/i]
uhmm dont know what i quoted these, but meh.
[i][size=1]We will need to research going rates; as for ways to charge, by the month seems to be the best for us as it requires the least amount of maintenance, even though we will still have to keep track of click-throughs to make sure that clients are getting their money\'s worth. More on that later, I think.[/size][/i]
Argh i cant remember exactly what i thought about this, i agree, of course we need to kind ahave it a bit cheap to get in the punters, perhaps we could offer semicheap for like smallish ones, then for a decent sized one a bit more? Or special offers for like a montly thing, i dunno.
[i]Trinity was right when he suggested that we need to come up with a 3-4 colour scheme which is specifically KillaGraphix; a background colour, midtone, highlight, outline and possibly a gradient. The fonts we seem to use most are Verdana & Another Typewriter.[/i]
Yes, i think this will ease things for you and dave too, when it comes to making new graphics etc
[i]I am still pondering the KillaGraphix webring, as this is really unbeatable free advertising if we can get people to join the ring; I am also still pondering on whether or not to put it on its own domain or a subdomain. The ring graphics themselves will need to be in KG colours, simplistic yet classy and easily identifiable as ours. Of course, they must also stand out from the crowd.[/i]
This is true, i mean it wouldnt be hard for some smart cookie to realise they were paying for advertising when they could join our webring for free
[i]For KillaHosting, I feel that we need to keep our offerings limited to a few manageable account options, basic, not so basic and even less basic; this is simply to make them easier to manage, and again we can use paypal subscription for billing. As long as costs are covered, that\'s what is most important to me.[/i]

haha quote tags hate you.
Trying to control my pondering is like trying to damn up the Pacific Ocean, it can\'t be done, I\'ve tried it.
Yes, I agree with growing into the web design and other stuff, however you know I don\'t think on a small plain. It\'s easier for me to draw a big plan--I\'m big on lists and plans, maybe because I spent so many of my years not knowing what to expect next or what was going to happen next. I need to know definite (or near definite) directions. I always need to know in nice basic terms where things stand, so that I can in turn complicate them.
I think the main thing I\'m looking for is feedback on directions and priorities and of course possibilities. If we can narrow down my rambling ponder to an itemized list and go from there, which we really should have done months ago but oh well all great things take time, then we can start working our way up again.
Soooooo as soon as we hear from the other admins, we can start doing that, and really get the KillaGraphix show on the road.

No we\'ll go out and actively recruit people and get them addicted to the KillaGraphix network...it can be done, will just take planning...lemme go off and ponder that....

I must agree that advertising is a good idea, as for the web-design area I really, really like that idea, and I know it\'ll mean a whole lot more work, however I think theres plenty of staf without a big project to work on, and some that\'ll be happy to take up the opportunity (envy for example) We have many various skills throughout our staff, and I think if all that is focused, we can put a combination of good graphics, and coding talent, into a respectable service.
most of my other ideas, which came to mind while reading ada\'s post, have already been expressed, and I think with all the ideas and imagination we have, we can really expand and become a popular and extremely respectable company (right word?)[/color][/font]

[b]Definatly need to cover costs here, but I\'m reluctant to want to offer a complex hosting packages at this time. I can probably get the kg index up very soon, then its over to ada to do the content, i\'ve tried to make it as easy as possible. Codecrypt is very near completion, but I\'m going to wait till i\'ve got kg sorted before going back to that.
kh I think should be developed as inner circle as possible. I\'ll try test out autopilot (not sure if it\'ll budge or not) and i\'m also going to see if plesk has a similar script - keeping in mind its price.
Think thats all from me, now, to some proper work...

[b]Definatly need to cover costs here, but I\'m reluctant to want to offer a complex hosting packages at this time. I\'ll need to look at see if autopilot can be used with a plesk control panel - it most likely can but im not sure how many features won\'t work. Webmin is installed i think, just don\'t have access to it.[/b]
[b]I think we should think about offering web design, but certainly not at this time. I think adding something later when we have hosting customers might be successful - espeically when the rush on the network has died down.[/b]

Found this one [url=\"http://www.sw-soft.com/en/products/hspcomplete\"]clickety[/url] made by same company a plesk, however you have to request a demo so I don\'t want to know what the price is going to to be >.<
There are a few on hotscripts which we could also consider. For now, gota get that index finished.

Similar to what was said about envy, I feel you could do some really good layouts exile with a little bit of html tutoring. Hows that for keeping you busy? <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... el_not.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(not)\' />
