What Do You See?
She watched the mist rolling in across the water and tried to calm her breathing. The last time she had been here, her only thought had been escape...to get as far away as she could, as fast as she could, and never return. Her need to get into that house warred with the memory of the terror of that night. She pulled her jacket tighter against the moist chill that had preceded the mist, watching carefully for any sign of life within the house. Closing her eyes she siffted through vague memories to map out what she could remember of the interior, but horrifying images forever imprinted on her brain just kept re playing in vivid technicolor. Shaking her head violently, she tried to rid herself of the film playing over and over in her mind.
"ok, get a grip,'' she scolded herself sternly, "I can do this, I HAVE to do this."
Unconsciously, she fingered the locket, the only remaining solid memento of her mother.
An electronic beep sliced through the eerie silence, quiet but startling. She had been expecting it, waiting for it, dreading it.
"ok, time's up, do or die, if he ain't home by now, he isn't coming home tonite," she whispered to the full moon that she hoped would lesson her need of the flashlight.
Taking deep slow breaths, she chanted quietly to herself, "The evidence in that house will put a monster away forever, No one else will ever have to go through what mom did....mom and only the shadows know how many countless others."
