If you were to come to KillaCafe, what programmes would you like to have available to you?

Obviously a wide selection of games, something for everyone, cant all just be killing and that, i think age of empires is cool, its something i can play if im in the mood for games, some care racing ones like NFS could be a good idea, ill even say the sims because i think its funny, but it might attract some of the younger-er kids. I dont know how popular things like PS or PSP would be, perhaps you could just decide on those on what they want to slap your wallet for

Yeah I know that, I'm looking for specific titles....trying to narrow down the amount of research that has to be done. So give me a list lol...

hmm..i guess you would have the online rpg games like Vietcong, UT..hmm..and others like that...maybe some sport games (shrugs) like FIFA 2004 or whatever..

i dunno what else...ya would need to ask some of the people that go to lan parties and junk..

I've broken these up into sections, just a few ideas:

Games:
Americas Army
Doom 3
Unreal 2004
Half Life/Counterstrike
Age of Empires

Internet:
As many browsers as possible

Graphics:
Photoshop
Illustrater
3DSmax6
Bryce
Flash MX
+ Freeware

Development:
C/C++ Libraries and a popular compiler
PHP + Mysql + Zend
Python + IDE (And tk and wxPython libraries)
Perl + IDE
.NET + IDE
ASP + IDE
Java + IDE (Jcreater?)

I'm not sure whether or not you have discussed these things, but having computers that are kitted out for graphics/coding might be an idea so that people who need a fast, reliable and kitted out computer can use it without having to spend $100's on software, and also Help may be close at hand

If you're doing that though you may also wish to consider running little tutorial nights for coding/graphics etc.

for games i would get battlefiel 1942 + updates and stuff bcoz that seems to be pretty popular, well i wne to such a cafe once and thats what the majority was playing.

Yeh shes got that planned sp3c; i dunno about some of the dev software though trin, is there anypoint in paying for something that may not be used? Perhaps things like that could be brought in via polls on the main site for (this is another idea i thought would be a good way of knowing what the customer wants is to have montly polls on the website) that goes for the same with bryce and them, its a good idea if people want to learn them and are willing to come in and play around, but then theres going to be the ones who wont even know what they are. If comps were to have graphics stuff, perhaps then these comps wouldnt have games on them (i think trin basically said this) But i still think certain progs should only be brought on either price or demand

Games/Graphics such like have been said above would (personal opinion) be more heavily used than development tools. I like shanes idea of polls to find out what people would want.

the idea for computers intended soley for coding etc is brilliant.... it will expand to become more than an internet cafe, ie, they dont have to pay your outrageous prices to go online, but can still use their time there to code etc - c'mon i know you'd bankrupt me and rift if we were there lol.
if theres a local university you might want to consider polling them for ideas - there will be the IT faculty who would love all the graphics and coding machines - i remember our university had a very limited number of computers dedicated to this - which were impossible to get on any time - i swear those guys just slept at the desks every night! lol... this could also expand into an agreement with the local college etc where their students get reduced rates or some other incentive - although beware, you might need to call the riot police at closing lol.
the rest of the university or colllege would provide students who just want to check their email, keep in touch with families now far away and a place to hang out that isnt on campus and - maybe - isnt all about getting drunk. trust me, feeding a computer tequila is not a good idea, but i doubt they know that yet lol.
i think the idea of games on demand is a good one. people you poll both here and in the local area may say they'd lke A B and C but in reality may never turn up to use them ....maybe you could work something out with the game owners to where you are able to trial their products at the cafe before deciding which ones you want to stick with. i'm sure they will have come accross this before and probably already have trial set ups etc for business use.
other than that, id maybe recommend things like solitaire - you know those ones you spend an extra two minutes on without realising. those two minutes can add up.
tutorials are a great idea again also...just dont overstretch yourself! i'd be happy to go there and teach anywhere from 11 up the basic skills - which many people are convinced they need -(such as word and excel) . you may find basic training in more demand than say vb or c++ - but i guess thats another thing to look into. lucky ada! i would suggest though that a tutorial for programs such as word, access and excel - even powerpoint could be taught using the computer - an online tutorial they pay by the minute or maybe a flat fee to complete - this way it frees up more "tutorial time" for the more indepth lessons. staff can always be on hand to help those who dont know how to save, change font etc.
well thats a lot of jumbeled ideas i know, but have fun bashing them about.

[b][i][color=\"gray\"][font=\"tahoma\"]May i suggest also not specifically blocking chat clients, i mean obviously dont let them use mIRC as everyone here is well aware of just what can be done from that client, but there is a market out there for people without computers that like to spend a quick 20 - 30 minutes in a chatroom and are willing to pay for it. I know while i was absent from the net i was willing to pay any amount of money to chat, and i was shocked to find out that the internet cafe computer had blocked searchirc and wouldnt let me use the kg chat client anyway.

Just an idea, not sure of what others will think of it but having been in the "Non Computer Owning" class for a few weeks i know exactly how desperate some people can get, lol. [/b][/i][/color][/font]

oh definitley mobes! lol, i think i single handidly financed my local internet cafe the last few months i was in england chatting to rift! lol...well i guess msn chat is out for those who dont have an account - im guessing? so that would leave yahoo - not sure though. would the software have to be downloaded to each machine in the cafe? oh, and dont forget messenger!!!! like solitaire, messenger keeps people on the computer for those few extra minutes, which means an upgrade hopefully in your card board box home! maybe we could afford to put a sparkly sticker on it?
