I was reading a Terry Pratchet book the other day and read a section that was about the Alchemists Guild and thought it would be a good theme for a piece. I wanted to give the idea of a reaction taking place, kind of like how they always do in the opening credits to Xmen and Incredible Hulk movies. I used deviant art to find some stock images of water and bubbles to use as my background. These were edited and filtered slightly as well as coloutred later. For the reaction in the bottom left I used a stock render also from deviant art and played around with its colours. I also added the hazy blur around the edges of the render to give the feeling of the reaction taking place, aswell as adding the rays of light with the pen tool.
Divinity is a small image that I ended up with after doing a tutorial on Vandelay Design for creating light beams which is woth checking out if you want to know how to do them.
Crit welcome as always.

I really like the Divinity one, the rays of light are very cool; might have to go and check out the tutorial if I ever get some time to find my way to Photoshop again. Not so sure about the text on the Alchemy one, it seems to almost blend in too well; though the more I look at it the more I'm liking it. Over all I think that Alchemy is a very nice piece, gives the feeling of a reaction going on quite well. Going to have to steal it for a desktop background. <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
Love is all a matter of timing.
It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.
If I'd live in another time or place...
...my story might have had a very different ending.

I like both pieces - they are very well done. I like the depth in Alchemy, although I'm not sure on the combination of colours you've used - is there any type of symbolism to them or reasons for your choice in their regard? I like the simplicity of Divinity, as well as the colours you used.

Thanks for the background steal Jim, Im honoured. I hear what you are saying with the text though Jim and its a fair point. I placed it there so it wouldnt pull the eye away and detract from the image and tried to keep it so it didnt look like it was floating out on its own. As to Tami, well the only reason I can say for choosing those colours was that it was all going to be varying shades and tints of blues but I thought that because of the fact that most of my work is blue Id mix it up abit. I just played about with different colours on layers with their blending set to "colour" and yellow seemed to give the nicest effect without being too garish. I also thought it helped give the idea of two different agents reacting together. Thanks for the comments <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... igwink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
