Echoes In Our Hearts

The fading
Of yet another day
Draws in the icy coldness
Of Winter’s heavy blanket
Too far away to feel
The warmth that is you
The distance of our being
I feel every night
When the light flickers
And goes out

Awakening each morning
To greet again
The mountains which surround me
Rising to this internal loneliness
Which makes my heart
Pound hard against these walls
Dividing our final union

In such times I feel
I am drowning in sorrow
For want of nothing more
Than the sparkle in your eyes
Your breath caressing my skin
Your hand offering a steady trust
Allowing me to step forward with you
And bask in all that could be ours
Our own rainbow, forever shining
In the deepest echoes of our hearts
On the promise of each new day
