The Bose® Companion® 3

Post by ner0 »

Well, after the anguish I initially had with this system, I never envisaged myself writing this review.

After our return from the states (where I purchased this product) I was extremely anxious to plug it in and get on my way, following all the instructions with the overwhelming urge to just jump right into playing it. It turned out that, although having all the necessary equipment, including transformers (yes, transformerS, I tried multiple appliances), the system just didn\'t want to play for me.

As any disgruntled customer would do, I immediately considered a return, however having bought the product from the states, I found myself in quite a predicament. After calling multiple Bose® Stores, it became apparent that this product is not stocked nor sold in the United Kingdom, so I called again, this time on a different mission... I finally found the address and telephone number for the repairs and returns center. This repairs and returns center; although situated in the same country (which is a little better), was still hundreds of miles away... and I; with no car, was stranded again.

Well after shelling out another £20 to send the product through recorded delivery back to the store, I just had to hope.

A couple of weeks later, after wondering what was going on; and why I hadn\'t yet retrieved my product, I called the bose repars center again... A somewhat friendly and welcoming voice explained to me that due to the overwhelming number of repairs scheduled, my system hadn\'t even hit the main schedule yet, and its review was due in 3-4 weeks time.
Now this, to me, being quite a patient guy; doesn\'t matter too much, so until around 20 mins ago, I had been waiting around 3 weeks.

Well after college today, I came through the door; not really expecting anything. My attention was immediately directed to the huge box sat on the sofa in the living room... after a few thoughts processed through my brain as to what it could be, it finally clicked....
although one would have thought the big \"bose\" printed in bold on the package would have been noticed sooner.

Well, as you could probably imagine, I ran over to the box... basically sprinted upstairs... and started plugging stuff in /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

well, after playing my favourite tune (not relevant, so neh you can\'t make fun of my taste in music) on the pc, making sure it was at an audible volume... everything boiled down to the control pod... with its orange \"standby light\"

one touch of that pod would decide my mood for the rest of the night...

*click* the light goes green...

BOOM... there goes the AMAZING bass from the acoustimass module... almost simultaneously, the powerful trebles joined the tune.

After listening to a few songs, I\'ve felt like there\'s a concert in my own bedroom, my Dad waltzed in the room, and; not knowing where the speakers were, guessed they were behind him somewhere.
well he was wrong, the speakers are both mounted on my monitor (they\'re small so he didn\'t notice them) which is pretty much right in front of where he was stood.

This illustrated the amazing sound created by these tiny speakers.

While listening to one of the best (in my opinion) vocal songs I have (evanescence ~ my immortal), I decided to see what the system was capable of, assuming it was on full volume, I enjoyed the fantastic sound for around 5 mins before I eventually felt my ears numbing...

hmm, looking over at my windows volume control, I noticed it was only at around 5%... /shocking.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(ack)\' />

if the system is ear-numbing on 5%, I\'m pretty sure i\'d be blown through the wall at 100...
being the curious (yeah yeah I know, curiousity killed the idiot with the cool speakers) guy that I am, I decided to turn it upto 100, while having the control pod volume on minimal.

I really haven\'t plucked up the courage to turn it up full yet /blush.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(blush)\' />

I can personally recommend this system, but a word of warning, always make sure a system works before even taking it out of the shop, then be sure of where you stand in terms of warranty... if it wasn\'t for bose being understanding about my situation, they could have simply said \"well you used an imcompatible transformer, therefore its not our problem\"...

10/10

I'm very impressed with the way Bose handled the situation, Bose doesn't seem to be overly big in Australia, although they do advertise and they are regarded as one of the better brands out there (Up there with Sony, Panasonic, Alpine, Kenwood and Pioneer), They even skywrote their name above Mt Panorama at the Bathurst 1000 the past few years.

Not many places in Orange stock them, if any, so i can't really comment on the sound quality and similar stuff, but i do know of people who own Bose systems, and have heard nothing but good things.

This is the first time i've ever heard of a Bose system -not functioning- at all and it was handled very well... although one does wonder why the Repairs center was swamped with systems to begin with...

*Heads off to find pictures of this system*
