Challenge #1: Data Retrieval

Post by Trinity »

Challenge Aim: To retrieve data from a remotely hosted server at a scheduled date/time, continually.
Challenge Langauge/s: All
Challenge Deadline: Sunday 27th February, 2005

Further Details:
This is a simple challange that could be achieved in a number of ways, with varying degrees of difficulty. Here are two examples of what the program might aim to do:

Example 1: http://killablogs.com/Josh
Everyday, goes to the garfield website and gets his comic. This does not take much time, but what if a program could do it for him?

Example 2:
Every Friday, I have to go and get the current rate of the Australian Dollar off a website. This also does not take long, but it could be automated, saving precious time, and making sure that I don't forget!

As this is the first challenge, I'd like to leave it very open. You can choose one of those examples, or perhaps use one of your own. At the end, hopefully we will have a number of different programs that do the same thing in different ways!

Good luck!

Edit:
Almost left out the most important part! When you're done, please post a compiled version (.exe), or upload it if you're using a web scripting langauge, AND post the source code (may be a vb project file) so that people can learn from how you completed the challenge.
