Very Easy
Instead of putting text on an image, we\'re going to put an image on text.
1. Open a new image document. I\'m going to use 500x 150. Before you begin, you should have in mind what effect you are looking for. You can either use this on a plain one colour background, a picture background, or a transparent background. I\'m going to use a gradient background. This one uses colours I pulled from the image I\'m going to use on the text.
2. Select the font you wish to use on your image. *Note: wider, less refined fonts work better for this effect.* The text should suit the image and font you are using. I\'m using a photo I took of some chains. Open your picture image and using the move tool, drag it into your text image. Chances are it will cover your text.
3. Next click on Control + G to group your new layer with the text layer.
4. The final step is to add a stroke to outline your new text effect. With your text layer highlighted, click on the Blending Options icon at the bottom of your Layer Palette (the stylized f icon on the left.) Select Stroke.
You can experiment with different settings until you get an effect you like. Here\'s one result:
