putting together a pc

Post by Wingx »

Since my old pc crashed and died horribly, i'm gonna put together a new one.. but I don't really know a good video/audio card.. anybody suggestions?
ow yeah, and i'm gonna put in AMD Athlon™ XP 3200+, if anybody knows a better one, go ahead..
I need a the cooler too, so anybody know a good one?
Now one last thing, the computer adaptor (you know, the thingy where the electricity comes in). Anybody know a good one?
oh, if i left something out (except the memory and HHD) just tell me

Btw if this is the wrong section, sorry, i'm not used to post in this section

'class KPIM::ProcessManager' only defines private constructors and has no friends <- :( poor class

Good video card, nVidia 128mb.
Good Sound card, Creative Audigy 2 Live 5.1

Good CPU, anything that's NOT Amd <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
If you put in an intel you shouldn't need a cooler and for the power supply a standard one with a P4 connector (if you buy a P4) should do the trick.

Theres nothing wrong with AMD, sure they output a little bit less performance but they are more stable than pentiums.

well..you'll want at least a 3Ghz cpu, or your graphics card will grow cobwebs <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/blum.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' /> and thats a cute soundcard too <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... iggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

your power supply (the bit where the power comes in <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... igwink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />) i would say.. 400w should do it, i mean..you could go for more...but yanno, personal preference <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Most cases now will come with a power supply (assuming you purchase from the right place). The standard supplied is now 500watt+... I have a 700 watt supply in my main PC, and it's more than enough to handle everything. Assuming you'll be running the mobo (and accessories), 2 hard drives, and 2 optical drives, 450 watt will be plenty.
As for a cooling system, well, unless you intend to overclock, a fan system should be enough. I have 5 fans on my main PC... 2 exhaust, and 3 intakes, along with the standard CPU fan and a drive cooler (little fans that keep the hard drives running cool). The temp inside my case has never gotten above 64 degrees and it runs for weeks at a time.
Essentially, what you put in the case will be based around what you are actually willing to send on it, and where you get your parts from.

To tell you what we recommend, we really need to know what you'd be using it for.

If you're after a more office or media based machine then go for a Pentium, if you're wanting to play more games on it then go for AMD. Also, you shouldn't really need a PSU over 500w unless you're intending on having an outrageous amount of HD's or using something like SLI. Oh yeh, and like NS said, a simple fan system should be fine for cooling <img src=\'http://www.killanet.net/forum3/public/s ... >/good.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'(Y)\' />
