there are plenty of sites out there with html lessons........even sample code if you work better that way......html isnt really that hard, i learnt the basics in about two days......i dont use it for much and obviously you can go beyond what i did to produce much more fancy sites. there are also programs out there where you create the webpage and at the same time can view the html code. html is a good platform to stand on when you pick what you want to learn next - be it java or css etc.
simply type in "easy html tutorials" and you should find what your looking for....i'd say the only thing to watch out for with html, like any code, is your grammar...put a bracket or comma in the wrong place and it can take forever to figure out why something isnt working....thankfully with programs like vb.net i've seen an almost "spell checker" feature that tidies up most mistakes behind you.
i imagine most of the staff here are familar with html, so if you do create a sample page, and cant get something to work, just post it and i'm sure there'll be plenty of people who can help out.
for html products i'd recommend:
www.sage-web.com , they have two programs available on a trial basis that are focused on html:
teacher's net : you dont see any code, simply add pictures and move tables and text around as you wish, then it uploads the whole thing for you.
htmlfly : a window which previews the page you are creating as you type in the html code - also has quick reference html tags to make the design quicker. handy if you are more familiar with html and want to fiddle around with the code...also helps show you if theres a problem as your coding as you will see the preview pane change.
i use teachers net myself.

good luck!

Start here.
Then here.
Then here.
This is where a lot of us get our reading from when we don\'t know how to do something.
