Making an eyeball

Start with a new image whatever size you need, I used 300 x 300 for this tutorial.
Use the preset shape tool elipse to make a white circle the size you want the eye ball to be.

Use the cut out tool found under effects then 3D effects drop downs to give the eye ball shape. Choose the shadow color, opacity and blur that gives the effect you want then make sure the fill with color box is checked and select the color you want for the white part of the eye.

Select the color you want the iris of the eye to be then use the preset shape tool elipse again to make the iris.

To give the iris a more realistic look choose the sunbust tool found in the effects drop down under illumination effects. I chose a lighter shade of blue for this tutorial but you may want to try several different colors to see the different moods you can create. You can start with the settings I chose for the bright spot, rays, and circle, but do play around with the different settings untill you have just what you want.

Use the preset shape tool elipse again to create the pupil.

For this step I used the pen tool to add a light reflection on the surface of the eye.

Then used the gaussian blur tool. Here you can adjust the blur to what you want.

Here I added an extra highlight in the pupil, this is an optional step.

And again used the gaussian blur to blend it, but not as much as the first highlight.

This is the end result after I merged the layers...if you choose merge visible the back ground will remain transparent so you can use the eye ball in other compositions.
